I wouldn't trade Gaudreau for either Huberdeau or Marner. We'd be losing the Huberdeau trade - as his numbers the past 2 yrs are worse than Gaudreau's, and his contract is for more $$, and longer than Johnny's, and they are the same age.

However, I would trade for Marner (conditional on signing an extension), and give up KJ; one of Svozil; Knazko or Coulemans; and a swap of respective 1st rnd picks; maybe add one of our 3rd rnd picks too.

maybe just maybe Gaudreau is as good as the linemates he's given, when paired with Fantilli (briefly before Vincent decided it would be funny to play him on the wing again)...there seemed to be a pulse to his game .

100% correct Alex. Johnny Hockey is not the problem in Columbus (horrible puck luck and bad shooting percentage were his problems last year). Others have to step up, like a nice man named Patrick Laine.

O3,

I thought the problem in Toronto is defense, and there is not enough there to entice them to trade Marner. And even if they could get him, could they keep him?

You're right. That's what I've been hearin too. One reason I included their choice of our three ,close to NHL ready, D prospects. Really - they can pick any D not named Werenski, Jiricek, Mateychuk. By swapping the 1st rndrs at #4 OA they can draft one of the stud D that are supposedly NHL-ready. In KJ they get a #5OA pick who can play the wing, and have under team control for 4 seasons after this one. Then I'd add one of our 3rd rnd picks this year. It also leaves them a crap-load of cap space to add more pieces.
