Thanks for continuing to blog NYN.
The magic ran out and it’s disappointing because this team won’t be back again. The Canucks may but not this version. Needed changes and cap realities on allocations will alter things in the off-season.
We can speculate what we want. Will have to trust management makes the right moves like they did last off season. |

I'm pretty confident in management building out the team – they did a great job last year, and only have more information to go off now. I'm positive there will be moves and signings that no one saw coming, so it should make for an interesting next month plus a week. |

Yeah agree will be surprises. Draft might be interesting trade wise. I think anyone not signed by then will be gone. Then free agency with turnover will cause commotion.
The thing is the Canucks were stacked with a lot of bargain contracts. Spent assets for some of them too. Did so well, they get a reprieve from most in trying to replicate. |

This statement from Allvin was a bit head-scratching.
When asked about Miky in the top 6: “It wasn’t his fault that he was put in a top-six position,” Allvin summarized, noting that it’s on the general manager to put players in a position where they can succeed. “It was my fault.”
On free agents: "The players expressed their interest to stay. We all know we have a salary cap, so we want to be a competitive team moving forward. There's only so much I can pay certain individuals

What's head scratching? Miky is not a top 6 player, he was put in the top 6 because Allvin didn't build a better top 6/didn't find the right players to push him down the lineup where he should be... in the bottom 6 |

A couple things, the coach decides who is in the top 6 and if he isn't top 6, wh did Allvin pay him like one.
He said he can't afford to pay everyone, my thoughts are, quit overpaying players. |

The coach decides, but if he only has four top 6 players then he has to fill it in with non-top 6 players. Allvin is taking responsibility for the lack of options.
Wow, what a thought. Players will want a pay raise, there's only so much cap room. I mean this isn't really hard to understand. It seems you're trying to make things more complicated than they actually are. |

So grateful you took over from that Boston twat. Great blogging all season and the playoffs. Much appreciated. I still think Pouty should have been sat to heal. Something not right there. Fantastic season nonetheless. |

I give him credit where it is due, he knows he didn't have enough top 6 players and 1 of them was needed to be spread o to 3rd lin(Lindholm), Finding a winger for Pouty is going to be a priority, which will reduce capspace even further.
My last point was overpaying players, like Mikheyev, who has/is a 3rd liner, making 2nd line money and Pouty being paid as though he is a top 5 player in the league, which he is not.
IMO those are 2 contracts that have eaten up an extra combined space of about 4 million, both signed by Allvin.
Not that complicated.
Anyways, there are some player available through free agency that I am hoping the Canucks are looking at, to fill some of the holes at the bottom end of forward group, is, Sammy Blais. Gomma be a fun and interesting off-season.

Yup, and it's ok to say they got some things wrong.
Mikheyev being one and letting Pouty's 'injury' fester another. |

When I wrote he was the top scorer yesterday, I just meant on the team, not the league. Wasn't about a scoring race.
I wonder if they pulled him at that point – top scorer on the team, in a playoff hunt for the first time in a long time – for what was a minor injury then, how people would have reacted. I'm sure the "soft Euro" label would have been thrown around. Clearly it got worse over time and use, but without us knowing the timelines and treatment for it, it's a bit much to judge it retroactively. |

It definitely seems like he felt differently about it than management did, at least in hindsight. Maybe he didn't communicate properly to them how much it was affecting him, who knows.
I can't believe the whole "soft euro", "need canadians over europeans" argument still flares up at this time of year. Someone pointed out in reply Mark Spector's comment of "less Stockholm, more Saskatchewan", there are more players from Stockholm than Saskatchewan left in the playoffs |

I knew you were talking about the team and not the league. I just think it could have been handled a lot better by both the team and Pouty. Also, the team really shouldn't worry about the fans reaction when treating an injured player. He wasn't making much of an impact after the All Star game, so I don't think it would have hurt the team by resting him. Someone isn't being honest, either Pouty or the team. |

Not sure I’ve ever heard of a player being sat for tendinitis. That would be something |

That he is. I imagine team doctors and management were rather shocked at his inability to play through a minor ailment. |

Freidman mentioned that Martin Necas was in the reported deal for Elias Pettersson involving Carolina & Vancouver.
With all the smoke around Necas, Friedman wondered if the #Canucks could circle back and name dropped Filip Hronek since CAR needs D. 👀
