So Ville and Alex are fully healthy now. Please get rid of Husso and let's not play Alex over half the games again.

"Friedman noted on the 32 Thoughts podcast that teams have inquired about former Winnipeg Jets first-round pick Rutger McGroarty (14th overall), and the Jets have engaged in trade talks about him. Friedman doesn’t get too far into the details but says that he’s heard that McGroarty is being talked about in trade discussions. The Jets hold the 20-year-old’s rights for two more years, and McGroarty decided in April to return to Michigan for another season in the NCAA. With Winnipeg in win-now mode, it would make sense for the team to look at moving him for a player that they can insert into their roster right away, particularly if they are concerned about losing his rights in two years."

Berggren + 2025 2nd for McGroarty! Rutger has played since 2017 in SE MI! Get er done Stevie!

I was looking at that and taking notes. If Detroit can get a commitment, great. Otherwise it’s a player who may well be heading to free agency after finishing their time at school

I don’t doubt it, but it comes down to pipeline/opportunity. This could be a great fit. You still have to get that guarantee. The college rd and/or Euro rd to free agency is something Yzerman briefly touched on. My curiousity comes in what the potential pay model of the NCAA does to the process. Can you then give an ELC to someone who wants to play another season?

Off hand, my neighbor from about 4th grade through high school (several houses down) a good friend coaches for the circuit with Honeybaked/Little Caesars and others. Those kids look to opportunity, minutes and money. If I were a prospect I’d look at Utah, CBJ, San Jose and a few others where it feels a little more wide open. Hirose’s path didn’t end up so hot in terms of NHL opportunity.

Hirose would have been a tweener on most clubs if he could not make it with the Wings all this time.

Have you guys heard anything on the Gibson to the Redwings rumor? It doesn't make much sense to me, unless Yzerman doesn't think Lyon is ready for the starter responsibilities. I suppose Husso would be coming back, but what else? I can't imagine Verbeek would do a goalie for goalie trade when the Ducks don't need cap space.

Merick and Freidman talked of it on 32 Thoughts pod cast. Dunno the details, and I doubt M and F do either. Verbeek and Y are rather secretive. Could be Husso for Gibby, doubt it is 1 for 1 though.

Why would Yzerman add more salary with a goalie that doesn't have better numbers than Husso. He has enough to do with signing Seider/Raymond to new deals and adding to improve this roster while trying to find a way to ditch his mistakes from last summer in Holl and Petry.

Unless he is shipping Husso with Holl for Gibson, there is no point in making that trade. Wouldn't really be an improvement for the Wings but at least it would clear up a defense roster spot. Main problem with that deal is all the players involved have a M-NTC and they would all have to agree or teams not be on their no trade lists.

Gibson sucks so I’d think Yzerman would go for a goalie that’s actually an upgrade.

Hirose is just off brand Andy Miele. He’s lucky he got NHL action.

McGroarty now has requested a trade! He wants to play in the NHL. He won't sign with Winny unles they play him! I dunno if Y can assure that he will, I mean he has to earn it!
I still want to see him in Detroit! Even if it means bottom 6 minutes. He is a big body and can handle it!

This. He’s near a point per game in the AHL at times but it just doesn’t translate. One of the first “lessons” I learned from a press vet was a lack of passion regarding collegiate prospects in comparison to Holland.

In all fairness, if someone tells me they had a 10 year or more career in the AHL that’s a lot of respect going that way. It’s just not what the org needs

I saw that and immediately thought of you. I don’t know if Winnipeg would value Berggren in a one for one or if that would be significant value either way. Good stuff H2. You were on this well before I saw that come out. I owe you a cream soda.

Well it is Berggren and a 2025 2nd I would think, and Whinny could use a cheap young scorer in there top 9. I think he would be on the 2nd line soon enough.

"According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Red Wings and Boston Bruins could be linked to an offseason trade that involves Linus Ullmark heading to Motown."
"Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman likely doesn't want to pony up on the Bruins' asking price if there isn't an extension in place for Ullmark. Which makes this trade likely something that would shape up after July 1 when Ullmark is eligible to sign an extension. "

Ut oh! Idk if I like this. I would rather try to get 2 yrs of Bob at $6M and wait for Cossa.
