Exactly what I thought the synopsis would be...let's wait until he's in his mid-20's before we know what we got.

Absolutely terrible.

You don't win when building blocks take that long to develop.

So instead of Buium and Gauthier we have Luchanko and an injury prone Drysdale....think about that.

Meh.
Not overly pleased with how this went down, but I'll give DB and the scouting team the benefit of the doubt.
That being said, the fact that we couldn't trade UP speaks volumes of how other teams see our current roster players. They don't want them, and want the Flyers to pay to get rid of them.
Pretty damning when you think of it that way.
When you're willing to take a chance on an unproven draft pick vs a proven (for whatever that's worth) NHL player.....that's not good.

At some point the excuses will run out and the 3 jokers will be fired. Meanwhile, the Blackhawks are teaching a master class on how to swing for being great, and not just good, during a rebuild.

Nice propaganda piece.

You always go BPA in the first round and Luchanko was not the BPA. Briere defending not taking Buium because they already have Drysdale, York and Andrae in the organization is beyond stupid.

The new era of orange seems just as clueless as the prior era of orange.

Yep. If we're "too small" on D (coming from DB, of all people), well, you'd better be able to bring in (or bring up) somebody with some size and toughness. Do we have any of those players? Not many.

Since the fanbase is already pissed, now is the perfect time to trade Morgan Frost. Rumor is they are taking calls on him this weekend.

Worst case scenario: Buium becomes the next Quinn Hughes and Luchenko the next JOB

Best case scenario: Buium isn’t all that and Jett blows it up in Guelph next year and everyone says they missed the boat on this next potentially elite center.

It’s true we don’t know and I for one only know what other people say. The disappointment comes not from personal observation and knowledge for me, but from dozens and dozens of mock drafts and prospect profiles by people who know this stuff better than me. Add that to the fact that I’m a lifetime Flyers fan who has come to generally expect the worst case scenario and things not panning out… well the best I can do it hope (as usual) and keep expectations low.

Who knows, maybe he will become Toews to Michkovs Kane

Luchanko also scored very high at the Columbine. (#1 in Left and Right hand Strength) I think he was in the top 4 in 5 catagories. He seems like he has a high motor and is dedicated. Reminds me a bit of a Brind'amour with speed. Everyone is developing and the Flyers might have caught a fast riser before his ceiling is hit. I agree that we need to wait and see on this one. But at least if Danny did reach on this pick, he had the sense to pick up some extra assets as he moved down.

1) Saying there were more exciting options they weren't able to take happen (which is the truth) and that I liked 1-2 existing options better is a funny form of "propaganda".

2) Saying that I'm not going to rush to judge and understanding how unpredictable drafting and developing is also TRUTH.

3) Another truth: You're on my last nerve. I detest knee-jerk morons who only read into something what they want to read into it. Have no time or patience for such people. Unfortunately, we don't have an "ignore" feature here.

What would you call getting swept and getting outscored 18-9 in the process? A competitive series?

Interesting take. Only Ullmark got moved for a 2024 first round pick. No other player was traded for one and certainly no other player was used to trade up. Weird how every other team also weren't able to use their players to move up the draft. Only a flyer thing!

Teams are trading players less before July 1 due to signing bonuses.

I am very curious the return. Frost going before Laughton should lead to interesting reactions.

My conspiracy theory on why Buium fell is pretty simple. No GM wanted to be the next one in the exclusive Flyers/Jets club of having high draft picks say "nah, I'm good".

Sounds like the #Flyers are trying to move up from 51. Could be looking to package it w/ a mid round pick next year in order to do so.

As i said yesterday its not the kid's fault he was drafted where he was. I will root hard for his success and hope that ZB is nothing more than an average offensive dman.
Would i rather they had taken one of the other guys? I do but my opinions are based on others opinions and from what i have read.
The flyers could have always traded one of the less than big dmen if ZB ended up being the real deal.
As far as not being able to get into the 4 or 7 spot. Selling the farm for one player is not a smart use of assets. If anything DB was sticking to his plan and not panicking.

I’m feeling like, a little underwhelmed. Always wanted them to get a center. I was on record stating that, I thought we should have gotten one at last years draft. Having said that, I feel they reached a bit for Jett. Sure seems like they were scrambling a bit after Richardinson went off the board. At that point, just take the BPA and move on. I’m trying to remain positive and hoping his upside is, what they think it is. It just seems like more ole Flyer stuff.

Jett Luchanko scouting report for NHL Draft. Profile contains Jett Luchanko stats, videos and written bios
www.mynhldraft.com

Jett Luchanko's Player Profile
Adam Kimelman - NHL.com - June 11th: "Luchanko (5-11, 187) is an explosive skater who can contribute on the power play and penalty kill. When injuries and graduations to pro hockey forced the 17-year-old into a larger role this season, Luchanko responded with a team-high 74 points (20 goals, 54 assists) in 68 games; he had 14 points (five goals, nine assists) in 46 games last season."

Mike Morreale - NHL.com - June 11th: "The right-handed shot, is smart and tenacious on pucks, and had 33 power-play points (30 assists) in 68 games. He can play center or wing and finished among the top five in six of 10 on-ice categories at the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in January, placing first in reaction with puck and second in transition ability with puck."

Chris Peters - Flo Hockey - June 3rd: "He has tremendous versatility in addition to having the skill to be a middle-six scorer. He’s defensively responsible, aggressive off the puck and has a good motor. Luchanko is a quick forward with good skating ability and can close on pucks well."

Scott Wheeler - The Athletic - June 3: "Luchanko’s an average-sized player with above-average skill and impressive skating ability, but it's his on-ice intelligence and knowhow that defines him. He’s also a superb athlete (one of the better in the draft), who performed exceedingly well at the combine. He understands timing, spacing and puck movement at a very advanced level, always finding his way into good spots."

Corey Pronman - The Athletic - May 28th: "As a smaller forward, whether his offense is special enough is a minor question but it lessened for me over the course of the season. He looks like a potential third line center or second line wing."

Steven Ellis - Daily Faceoff - May 28th: "For a while, I was worried he was too small – 5-foot-11, 170 pounds. And, yeah, I’d like to see more muscle here. But after he put up more than 50 assists this year, his vision and hockey IQ are worth getting excited about."

Hadi Kalakeche - Dobber Prospects - Apr. 20th: " The defensive game, athleticism, intelligence and skating ability were there from the jump, but the offensive upside was the big limiting factor in his game. As we’ve continued to track his progress, however, there have been brighter and more frequent flashes of high-end playmaking in Luchanko’s game, setting the table for a meteoric rise on our board."

Tony Ferrari - The Hockey News - Apr. 15th: "Luchanko isn’t a flashy player; he just makes the right play at the right time and consistently generates positive results. He doesn’t waste chances by throwing pucks on net from above the circles or out by the boards."
