I just don’t get why players who have made 50,60,70………100 million $$$, don’t just take a haircut to be happy and play where they want!? They still need to squeeze an extra $100k or $500k or whatever, out of the team that has given them so much cash. I don’t get it, you’re rich, be happy. You’ve already made $100million, are you going to uproot your lifestyle and family for 1/2 mil or a mil??

when it's your money, you'll understand.

What Tampa is doing with their captain is pathetic. If 8y @3M is the best they can do - for their franchise player of 15 years, Hall of Famer, and a guy that has won 2 cups and took them to 4 cup final - that's pathetic. They should give him at least 25M over 3-4 years

So what you are saying is the player should bend to the will of the team and compromise and take less? That makes no sense. For me, it is my legacy and will set up my family for the rest of our lives. I would take that over satisfying a team who have used my skills to generate their legacy and cash for their owners.

Well with respect to my money, I’ve taken less to live where I want! I took a pay cut to work and live, where I wanted, instead of going to my boss and saying…..pay me more and I’ll stay. So what’s the difference?

Nothing to do with the will of the team. The guy has made $100million and he’s going to uproot his family and go somewhere he doesn’t want to be, and his family doesn’t want to be, for money, at the end of his career? Makes no sense.

Yo what you aren't allowed to celebrate what your team did at the draft?

You must not have seen his elite shot, there's a 5 goal game in there for ya #11 Back 2 back MVP. I'm ready to buy a jersey if he's a Kovalev

I know it may be hard for some with bad math skills, but here is how the STamkos thing plays out.

3 for 8 year = 24 million paid over time.

Giving him 4 for 6 yrs or 8 for 3yrs = 24 million

Maybe he thinks he should/can get a contract that nets 30 million or more.

The door with lightning is not shut, unless someone pays him north of 40 million total. That is 5x8 or 8x5. Someone may offer it...who knows.

I am sure the lightning may move to 3.5 to 4.0 for the 8, depending upon Guentzel. It will be up to Stammer to decide if the difference is worth his legacy and family life in Tampa.

Stamkos is 34 or 34, yes? Who is throwing 8 year contracts at that? At least think a little before posting.

It is not me, it is hockey insiders. A quick history lesson for you...

The lightning have been devastated by the salary cap, more specific the dead cap of the Covid era.

Rather then do a pittsburg penguins and sign a few aging stars to 6mm deals, well into the twilight of their career, the Lightning want to pay the players their worth for the next few years over the longer term. This payment is for loyalty and helps them manage the cap space in near term to remain competitive.

Do a little internet search on Lightning offers to STamkos and Killorn. Yes everyone knows the players will retire in 3 to 4 years, the cap can be buried and it is not burdensome for the organization.

What would be a fair offer? I would rather a GM is cold and calculating when it comes to building a functional and successful roster. Giving him too much term will result in years of dead cap.
