You don’t have to wait for that article about how great a mentor EJ is. I just read it in the Inqy. To be fair he does sound like a great guy, but it seems odd that it’s such a fringe player that has taken the initiative to reached out to Michkov. Here’s a quote from the article; “ That is not the only connection. Although he didn’t have to experience a new language, food, or rules, the grizzled veteran has been in Michkov’s shoes as a 19-year-old skating in the NHL.
“I’m here for him any way he needs and helping him acclimate to Philly, to the NHL,” said Johnson, a defenseman who was selected first overall by the St. Louis Blues in the 2006 NHL draft.
“Whether he needs a ride or needs recommendations on where to eat on the road, has questions about how practice is run, how things are going on with meetings, schedule, all that, he knows that I’m here for him to answer any questions and I’m excited to work with him.” |

Issues like that are why NHL teams hire and pay development coaches.

Sure, but a young kid just wants to feel like he’s part of the team. Not really looking to hang with a player development coach |

Okay, is Erik Johnson the only player that can do that for Michkov? My point is that in my opinion, none of that justifies the re-signing of Johnson.

Thankfully it’s only13 games to hit 1,000. Torts won’t have to force feed him 50 games to get it. I think he ends up playing around 40. 20 too many. |

a 19 yr old russian who doesn't speak english is going to be hanging out with a 36 yr old american who doesn't speak russian?
Is this one of those wacky comedies where they bond through miscommunication? Michkov hits him up to go the club but he's already in bed?
Hire a 25 year-old bilingual development coach or hopefully someone on the Flyers can speak Russian but i don't see this being very helpful off the ice.

They should have actually rebuilt. Traded guys like Laughton and TK. Go sign a Tarasenko or another prominent Russian for Michkov. Overpay for a two year deal knowing you’re going to help this kid. |

Who knows. As I said, it does seem odd to me that it's such a fringe player that is doing it. |

I would imagine Michkov has been taking English lessons since he was drafted, and probably before. They also have Fedotov and Zamula to help him along. |

Both new guys to the league, not the end of the world, but a veteran Russian might help all these guys. It’s just annoying that if they actually did this the right way you could sign a veteran and it wouldn’t matter. |

It does seem odd that EJ's the guy who seems to have the job of watching out for Michkov. I'm guessing the Russian speaking players will hang out. |

flyers are not a forward thinking organization.
while I am sure zamula and the Ivan will help MM. they have their own issues to deal with (playing well and getting regular playing time) and that just places another unneeded potential burden on them. they need to focus on their own game |

Yea, they played Yandle over 70 to get his participation trophy and people still complained when he was sat after flyers younger players who could use the ice time finally got it.
Streaks/milestones can be ridiculous because if you get within spitting distance of them teams/players will force it to the detriment of the team. No way Yandle should've played at all that year but his play helped get Yeo fired and contributed to the losing season all so he could continue a streak. Is it really meaningful when you should've retired a full year before getting the streak? Did the Flyers/Yeo feel proud of their/his contribution to the streak as he was fired and the Flyers finished near the bottom? |

He should not have been resigned. His spot as a 7 should be reserved for risto. The 3rd pairing should be a merit based platoon amongst zamula/ginning/attard/andrae.
It’s a stupid, unnecessary signing |

Like Nick Schultz... played here for just a couple of seasons and change... now on his 5th-year in the front office and up to Asst. Director of Player Dev.
Once you're anointed a "true Flyer" you've got your ticket on the gravy train. |

"a 19 yr old russian who doesn't speak english is going to be hanging out with a 36 yr old american who doesn't speak russian?" - who said anything about hanging? EJ just offered his assistance to MM had any questions or concerns.
