Well I’m not sure what their treatment of Stamkos was!? They didn’t sign him! How much did he want from them and what was the offer? Who knows? They decided to go in a different direction, I can respect that. They shouldn’t need to give SS a goodbye present…..he was paid extremely well and the team was rewarded. Shake hands and part ways.

Will the remaining Lightning players give less effort simply because the team let the older Stamkos walk and replace with the younger Guentzel? How has that destroyed the franchise?

Tampa is at the top of the sneaky great signings list, but also most likely to drop from the playoffs?

Pittsburgh isn't bad because of their old core. They're bad because they have nothing to support the old core with at all.

Flyers are in on Askarov, Zegras, Yamamoto, Barrie...so I'll have an opinion when the roster is complete. Flyerbuzz#

They will get none of them.

Zegras and Torts will bump heads, ala Frost. They have 6 goalies in the system, and while I do see Askarov as an improvement, I doubt the Flyers management do.

No need for Barrie, we have too many older guys already and the kids are already sitting. Yamamoto is too small.

So no..none of this will happen.

And why is that? Because half their payroll is tied up in aging players. Thus, there are no new funds to spend on younger talent.

Proof..Guentzel is gone.

I think it's more the fact that they spent the last decade plus as genuine Cup contenders most years (and Cup winners 3x) and this is just the result of trading away high picks and valuable prospects to keep that momentum moving forward. They have no prospects and no help on the horizon, on top of paying their aging stars and not being able to bring in any outside help to support them.

All that said, for 3 Cups in 10 years I'd happily watch a terrible team for a decade. poop, I'd sign up for that for just one Cup.

I'd bet on Carolina to miss this year.
