You are correct and I've edited the blog. Accrue was the wrong word to use. The Oilers could find ways to clear cap space in different ways over the course of the season, either through other injuries, trade, or sending players down if they need to clear space to bring Kane back.

Best to put ceci, Ryan, Brown and Stetcher on waivers and pray some team claims them.
After all the negative talk surrounding the Nurse Ceci pairing last year in the playoffs, it wouldn’t suprise me if the oilers had to add picks to dump his contract.
Getting Holloway signed for 1.2 is a stretch, he’s a better option than Perry to play on Draisaitl’s wing.
Broberg may sign that but I think he proved in the playoffs that he’s quite capable of playing top 4. He made Nurse look decent out there. Hes going to look for more $ and more opportunities.
Some team needs to offer sheet either player, it’s too bad not many GM’s have the balls to use this option.

Kane will just go on LTIR until the playoffs. I expect teams will punish the Oilers for taking Ceci. He's not a major liability contract, but if EDM has to trade him to get cap compliant, I doubt anyone will help them out.

Wallman is a better player but the Red Wings had to give up more because of the extra year on his deal which comes with inherently more risk. Ceci is a clear bottom pairing player, worst case he struggles and the team doesn’t need to worry about him after this year.

Wallman has still had ups and downs but if he struggles the team is on the hook for another year.
