That's a good bridge deal...wish more teams did them.

And then 5 years from now the next GM after Blake is fired will wish he gave Byfield a long-term contract because it's going to end up costing more than double to keep him through his prime.

Bit of an overpay for a guy who had a decent year and 28 goals and less than a half a point a game in a 179 game career. Shouldn’t have been the #2 pick

Precisely. Bridge him for a few or go 8.

The response was on par with the shallow depth of your post. Anyone who'd reason like that has an agenda or is stupid. Either way? (frank)ing idiot.

I like QB as much as the next Kings fan, but I'm not sold that he'll be the center that we hope will be. By the time this contract is up, we'll know one way or the other. If his next contract is a max, then it will most likely be the biggest contract on the team, depending how Clarke develops. I get what folks are clamoring about giving up prime years, but this helps in the immediate, and if he reaches anywhere near his potential, then he gets a huge raise that will set him up for the rest of his life, and if he peters out and plays wing forever or becomes injury prone, then this contract is a swoop of genius that doesnt hog tie the team for the next 8 years...

It certainly helps with the AAV. Spence gets signed and there might be a little extra room for an upgrade in the bottom 6 if that's viable OR GMRB just rides into the season with the space. The kid is special and took a big step last year. There is a lot of room left for more growth. He's going to be expensive at the end of the deal.

should of been a 4 year bridge to keep him in RFA status. Not letting it go to possible UFA.
