Why wouldn't the Leafs hire a professional?

Just another example of MLSE putting profits above winning.

Dallas has had a remarkable record of drafting impact players with picks outside the top of the first round, like Roope Hintz (49th overall – 2015), Jake Oettinger (26th overall – 2017), Jason Robertson (39th overall – 2017), Thomas Harley (18th overall – 2019), Mavrik Bourque (30th overall – 2020), Wyatt Johnston (23rd overall – 2021), and Logan Stankoven (47th overall – 2021),

Um, Mike... I see a few picks NOT outside the first round. What gives?

Ah poop! I'm blaming a lack of reading glasses, Edmonton's current heat wave, and beer for that. My bad.

i found it funny that Keefe needed to fired for his D pairs. then you said one pair was great and pointed out that Keefe had 2 useless d men. So what exactly was he supposed to do for pairs if his options were terrible

You are the master of conflation.

So I had read that Hakanpaa contract hadn't been registered yet. He isn't on puckpedia's leaf roster but is on cap wages. Also the maple leafs social media never announced the signing as they did their bigger names in free agency.

Such a weird situation eh. I get he didn’t cost too much for leafs to snag but at same time a bit weird that Tre didn’t just set focus on a more reliable option when adding that 3rd piece to the backend.
I hope he is all clear though - if yes that’s a good add

Getting the feeling it was done for "cap relief" next season, kinda like the D guy last year.

A tricky loop hole found by Prindham that they want to keep under wraps???

I don't put any stock into the idea the leafs didn't pursue anyone else and missed out because of this.

Ya who knows right. I feel like it the focus should’ve been a guy that can play. Even if it was upfront - just why potentially waste space cap wise sgd time on a maybe. No matter what the hit it could’ve been used elsewhere.

Fantastic hire by the Leafs. Couldn't be happier to improve the organization in a major area of need.

Hopefully, when Shanahan finally gets fired, this guy is looked at to be a major part of the solution.

His track record in Detroit was impressive enough but if he starts hitting home runs like he did in Dallas that provide quick NHL level success, the Leafs made an amazingly positive move for the organization.

Perhaps Jim Nill is the next guy to target from Dallas too, just in case this guy wasn't the one making the final calls on the picks. Hopefully he was the guy making those picks.

If he's broken, it'll be really disappointing because he would have been a solid addition at that price with that skill set.

That being said, a guy like Bortuzzo is still out there whom you could bring in as a platoon guy 6th/7th RHD who smashes bodies. He's known to Berube too.

Leafs health staff seems to be making mistakes too frequently, especially with UFAs.
