I love what could be different about the Oilers GM….. Strong Sean Strong…😛😛😛👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻…

I never understood the we don’t wanna offer sheet other teams because the GM thing… screw that… make your own team better..

This is the kind of move Verbeek should be making it, but the Samueli’s chopped his nuts and turned himinto a gelding-

From what everybody says- D are more important than forwards - so expect them to match that and let Holloway go… 3rd line wings are a dime a dozen.

Nobody has to worry about offer-sheet retribution from Edmonton, they are horrible at managing their cap, and with Drai and McD contracts needing to be extended, Oil won't have any cap space to spare for many many moons. The good summer that Jackson was having is going downhill fast.

No doubt Jackson is like the guy at the bar …pulled the hottest chick on the planet, everything is rolling… and then One dumb move and wheels come off…

I noticed you didn't mention the Oiler's GM by name. You must be tired already of writing all those extra words.

This was about the offer sheets and the failings of Ken Holland that led them to this place. This wasn't about Stan Bowman, who was complicit in the Kyle Beach sexual assault and assaults of a high school and university student.

I’m wondering if you can match and then trade the player. Dose anyone know what CBA says about this ? You would get more than a 2nd rd pick I would think …..

You cannot trade the player for one year after signing the contract. For Broberg the Blues put him right to the top tier of the 2nd round pick return. If the contract was one dollar more they would owe the Oilers a 1st and a 3rd round pick

Is Broberg a RD? He's left handed so if he plays LD, not sure how he would play ahead of Nurse and Ekholm in the lineup. Seems like he is more poised to be a bust than worth that AAV.

Nah. The high school student that was sexually assaulted is a literal child. Sean is just being a bit childish.

While a left shot he has played a fair amount on the right side both in the AHL and the NHL. His time in the playoffs last season was all on the right side alongside Darnell Nurse.

Appreciate it. That makes more sense then. Because 2RD is an open spot for sure. Just wasn't seeing him have any chance ahead of Nurse, Ekholm, Bouchard. Still haven't been very impressed with him given I barely remember him playing in the last year and he didn't seem as visible as Holloway. His metrics aren't anything special either.

The plan was likely to give him top four time on the right side, see if he can be a top 4 player and if not find a way to address that position at the deadline.

This offer sheet forces the Oilers to decide right now if they believe Broberg is that player now and to pay him like it. That is too great a risk in my eyes.

I don't believe that's true. The team that submits the offer sheet, if it's not matched, cannot trade the player for one year. However, if the team matches, I believe they can trade the player without any waiting period.

Kinda makes you wonder about where they spent the $$ this off-season before getting these guys under contract. I suspect the Oilers figured they could punt the decision down the road and still get them on the cheap before camp.

Big mistake.

Creative move by the Blues, starting with trading with the Pens to get their 2nd round back, allowing the offer sheets to be finalized.

I played travel hockey with Stan (Todd Marchant too - same team) from Mite through PeeWee while growing up in Amherst, NY in the 80s. He was slow (played Defense) on and off the ice, and only made the team because our Coach (AHLer Cole Schneider's Dad, Pete) didn't have the stones to cut him. It probably helped Stan's cause that Scotty showed up to as many games and practices as he could and made it a point to chat up any parent/fan/coach that approached him. What always struck me about Stan, was how slow his mind seemed to work when it came to processing the game itself. Nothing about him screamed hockey savant back then - he was the complete opposite of Scotty, who was great to listen to/chat with about anything hockey related. Stan had big head of red hair back then too, by the way, if you can picture that. He was a nice guy, very shy. But again, very slow mentally. I was surprised to see how quickly he got into the NHL and then how quickly he was elevated to GM.

His tenure with the Hawks was full of knee-jerk reactions and inability to analyze present and future effectively. Blues really screwed him though with these offer sheets. Thought Notre Dame would be his Mount Everest -- didn't understand the power of nepotism like I do now.

Nope, there are a number of articles and media individuals reporting the same thing. If the Oilers match the offer sheet, they cannot trade the player for 1 year from the signing date

Which makes sense because allowing the matching team to immediately trade the player would facilitate retaliation for exercising collective bargaining rights (am I lawyering this right?).

And then lobbing these offer sheets at a weak-handed GM (my opinion) a week into the job.

in four years whoever employs Draisaitl would DIE to trade him for these two players.

I think the Oilers will win the cup in the meantime, but this is a VERY tricky decision, those are two really great young players. Medium to Long term I take Broberg over Bouchard any day.

Thanks Sean, puts the Oilers in a bit of a tough spot. Should have taken some time and took care of this before signing others.

More importantly, I want to know what Mrs McDavid thinks!

Wish the Flames would have done this !

I’m curious what trades/waivers/LTIR strategies will retain them both.

I'd trade a first (probably in the mid to late 20s) to get rid of Kane and let Holloway walk. Unless they can find a taker for Ceci, too.
