"I don't know firsthand here but it wouldn't surprise me if there was some kind of discussion. Pittsburgh's [Cup] window is shut closed, and it's past time for their to rebuild."

Was this guy drunk?

Not like the Habs' roster shortcoming is defence, so why would they trade any assets for an aging d-man? Simple answer, they would not.

Not that I think there is any chance Letang is getting traded, but this EXACT logic and situation was what Ducks fans claimed until Verbeek traded for Dumoulin. GMs do idiotic things half the time.

Waddell can spin anyway he likes. Laine has low value. He has to put him on the ice if he wants a chance to get what he imagines he can get.

No because that was never a possibility. Happens every year, like saying Kakko over Hughes. Was never a remote possibility.

TOR drafted Matthews 1st overall, Laine was picked right after...

Completely off topic but. If you were Landeskog, who is turning 32 in November and has missed the last 2 seasons, would you consider retiring? He is still young enough to have a few more seasons in him but he has won the cup. Is there anything more to do besides try to stay healthy for the rest of his life?

you mentioned it was never a remote possibility for them to draft Laine, which is incorrect.

It's a fact. There was no chance anyone was taking Laine over Matthews. Laine might as well have gone 85th overall. He was never going to be taken over Matthews. Laine wasn't taken 2nd overall cause he could ever be as good as Matthew's. He just happened to be the next assumed best player.

well in that case the possibility was there, but it simply wasn't considered.

Settle down Spatso. It was never considered cause it would been the worst possible pick the Leafs or any team could have ever made. You're just saying this cause your team took Kotkeinimi (sp?) over Tkachuk aren't you. No that's insanity, not a probability.

jebus...

no, I didn't want to be the "erm, actually..." guy but different words have different meanings, that's all.

it's been quite a while since I've come to terms with the fact that the habs had a poor AF draft record for many, many years in a row. luckily the situation seems to have changed though in the last few years

Let's just leave it at this. If there is ever a redraft you can take Laine over Matthews and spare everyone else from even entertaining such idiocy.

it wasn't a popular opinion at all but I recall there were a couple of draft lists out there that had Laine first.

I'm really liking the new management team, I have zero complaints so far about the Hughes/Gorton duo, looks like they know what they're doing and they're sticking to the plan.

indeed. on the flip side it's like having an ugly wingman, they make the rest of the group look better.

easy now, I'm confident the habs would somehow manage to look pretty decent in a 7-game series against the leafs, even with the current line-ups...

I'm a lot a more confident you won't even be playing in a 7 game series yet again, let alone against the Leafs, let alone looking pretty. Speaking of the Leafs your top line smells so much like Bozak Kessel JVR it's amusing how the fans have such faith in the management.
