My conspiracy theory is that Treliving is just using the threat of signing of Pacciorety to force Robertson to sign a contract.

No its not.
Enough with these old crappy players.
If its a PTO fine, but not a real contract.
Hopefully its just a mind(frank) for Robertson

I have the same feeling...but not sure how threatening to sign a garbage player should worry Robertson

If Robertson is unwilling to sign a contract with the Leafs, then there is not much the Leafs can do but either let him rot or move him.
Using Patch as a motivator for Robertson to sign is a ploy the Leafs have in their playbook.

I'm like a HOF minute-munching puck mover, but if the minutes are pizza slices and if the puck is pizza.

If he leaves us in a position where we aren't getting fair value for him and there's no one willing to offer sheet him, he can literally go to the KHL.

My take on Robertson is that he has no power. It's a bluff.
If he wants a better opportunity, he won't get it sitting out a season. If I were the GM, I'd tell him and his agent that if his not signed and ready to start on day one of camp, he sits for the season.
Gotta make a statement to future agents who might try the same.

somehow Bowden Francis has turned into the best pitcher in baseball history.
im ignoring sample size.. but some of the stats for his last 5 starts are alltime ...like wtf

also worth mentioning, the Jays traded Rowdy Tellez for Francis and Trevor Richards, then traded Richards for prospect Jay Harry.

Rowdy Tellez has a 95 ops+ and zero WAR

enjoy your long weekend

I’ll take Pacioretty over the 165lb defensive liability happily. If your a bottom six guy playing D matters… and no, so long as they have Marner and Nylander on the top 6 Robertson won’t be there as a regular.

I'm not a parent, but over the last couple of years I've been an uncle to the gf's nieces who are 4 and 6. I get the dread now.

Songs like Wonderwall give hope to all young bands that you can make it big without a good song.

You'd be taking the memory of Pacioretty.

Last year Pacioretty played 3rd and 4th line minutes - he had one game over 18 minutes (@ 18:12 with no points and -1 on the night). He was -10 on the year at 5v5 and his line was outshot, outchanced and outpaced despite starting 60% of the season in the OZone against weaker competition. He had 2 goals and 10 assists at 5v5 in 47 games. He played with a variety of linemates, but Lapierre and Milano were his predominant partners - so they are not very strong as supporting castmates.

Last year Nick Robertson played 3rd and 4th line minutes - he had no games over 18 minutes - with only one game over 17 (@17:08 with an assists and even on the night). He was +6 on the year at 5v5 and his line outshot, outchanced and outpaced the opposition; they did start 60% of the season in the OZone against weaker competition. He had 13 goals and 10 assists in 57 games at 5v5. He played with a variety of linemates, but predominantly was paired with Domi and Jarnkrok. Domi's game picked up when he started playing with a shooter in Robertson, and enhanced itself more with Matthews - let's not forget that Domi started the first 1/4 of the season as pretty ass in his play until he found his groove.

Now if Robertson doesn't want to come back that's on him - but your constant takes on Robertson's lack of defensive play are erroneous at best when comparing it to a guy like Pacioretty whose best days are long, long behind him.

For context: Robertson sucks at D compared to Jarnkrok, but he's about even with Domi or Nylander - in fact he is better than Nylander, Gregor or Reaves - but being 11th out of 14 among this team's forwards isn't much of a brag . . .it's just noting that the kid is just 22 and can still develop and learn defense.

My son is just starting the studying for his G1. I'm sure the stress will come but my first thought here is that if he gets enrolled in a decent course - like Young Drivers - it will be vastly helpful.

I mentioned that I was 37 when I got my license - and I did take young drivers in a classroom full of 16 year old kids. We all just have to hope that our kids aren't like a few of the idiots who were in my class.

"When someone is going slow in the fast lane and you want to cut them off to show them how stupid they are, how do you know when it's safe to cut in?"

"The speed limit is just a recommendation, right?"

"I have the right of way over a pedestrian if I'm turning right, I could kill them!"

The instructor's horror at a few of the questions/statements was pretty entertaining. I'm not even doing it justice with the above - there were some far crazier things said that I'll have to try and remember. The first one (cutting a guy off) the instructor's eyes literally cartoon popped and he was like, "What?! God! Never! You don't . . you wouldn't . . .No. We are teaching defensive driving for a reason!"

But then the kid followed it up with something along the lines of saying that you were learning to drive defensively so you could be aggressive safely and again left the teacher just stunned on how to answer.

Meh, not much of a ploy imo. "If you dont sign then we'll sign a crappy player who will play bottom minutes that we'll most get rid of during the season or press box him."
