It is critical that both Mo Seider and Raymond get resigned by the Red Wings for them to have a chance to make the playoffs this season. I just can't see either being moved. I agree with you that Seider should have improved stats if he is paired with a good D partner. I would like him teamed with Edvinsson this year. I am anxious about getting both re-signed but will leave to Stevie Y to make that happen before training camp starts.

Johnny Gaudreau was a lot of fun to watch, a great hockey player and a wonderful human being. My condolences to the extended Gaudreau family for losing both him and his brother.

Keep up that great work Jeremy. It has not been easy for you when there is little happening to write about. I appreciate your dedication!

Thank you for that, and I agree on signings. The summer has stretched on and isn’t pleasant to just keep waiting for anything to budge.

For the Gaudreaus, my wife told me late last night that Matthew’s wife is expecting. Just one more painful fallout in this whole mess. Johnny had a lot of people scoff at his size and found a way to get past it and make a career. The hockey community comes together well and I’m sure that the support has been a blessing. It’s just a painful time for family and friends and the rest of us feel helpless. It is awesome to see the outpouring of so many over the past day.

No clue. This is one that would be weighed carefully if someone wanted to get the best possible chance. Never say never, but I don’t know if that’s a dollar amount That particular GM would want to get to even with laine moving on. We’ll see what happens soon enough

It's funny how many hypothetical trade scenarios exist out there regarding Seider and Raymond. They show up in my Google feed all the time. Most of them are deploring. I've only seen one involving Seider that was intriguing to Montreal but still not something I'm interested in.

With that being said, I think the most overlooked but most discussed trade candidate we have is Berggren. Does anyone remember the Adam Graves trade? Detroit thought they made a great decision trading a young prospect in Adam Graves plus Klima and Murphy for the likes of Jimmy Carson and a few others. Graves was the center focus of that trade for Edmonton with Klima being a big piece of that as well.

I believe Berggren has the ability to produce points like Graves did, and it would be a dire mistake trading him. Speculation had Berggren being part of the package for Trouba. I'm actually thankful that Trouba didn't come to Detroit. The league has cracked down on overzealous hitters like Trouba, and he has become a liability in his own zone. Plus, he's not getting any younger.

It's still up in the air if Berggren gets traded. It would be great if the Wings signed him and he made an impact on this team. Let's just see what happens. Rumor has it he's in Detroit this weekend.

Waddell could offer Raymond up to $8,726,188 X 5 yrs and would only have to give up a 1st, a 2nd and a 3rd. But he would have to get his 2025 2nd back from Philly first!
If Waddell offered $6,544,095 x say 2-3 yrs for a 1st and 3rd, I believe that would be easily matched and Stevie may thank him.

Jarvis just signed for 8 x $7.9M. I believe Raymond gets more, but they are very comparable. On 2nd thought, Jarvis is a center, but is Carolina using him at C? If so, maybe Raymond should get the same salary here, or very close to it. Raymond had 5 more pts last season and better than Jarvis the 2 yrs prior as well.

The last I heard was that it was close as far as a signing and that he was hitting the mitten this weekend. My biggest concern with Berggren is deployment. If he gets stuck on a “checking” line it’s not going to be good for the type of player he is. It looks like whatever deals Detroit had been working on just didn’t come to fruition so they’re likely looking at a 1 or 2 year “show me” deal for JB. The upside of a bottom 6 assignment would be with JV at center. They can both skate and could find a way to compete. But if he’s deployed for D zone starts and matched defensively against another team’s top 6 that may be a bad look. Trouba’s elbow throws are likely on the way out completely. We’ve seen them in slow mo and man that could end up with a suspension. I still would have liked to see him as an upgrade over some of the D we have but you’re right that he may be walking a line there
