He's grown and filled out a little - he's listed at 5'10 / 180 now - so while still undersized, not horribly so. The average NHL winger is 6'1 and 201lbs. The average Centre is 6'1 and 197lbs. The average defender is 6'2 and 204lbs . . .

So it's all pretty even. This is based off aggregate data over the last three years where a player has played at least 80 NHL games.

At his size Hirvonen would have to be an exceptional talent to make and stay in the NHL - there are only 14 wingers in the NHL smaller than or equivalent to him in stature and weight (there are 8 defensemen and 7 centres).

Hirvonen is not exceptional. I think he gets a look, but I don't think he's a sustainable option.

It sure seems that way, they have a ways to go in comparison to the other Canadian teams. For example, I foresee the habs taking a step forward this season and finishing 17th in the league.
