Doesn't seem fair to other teams who have players who are for all intent retired to have to use LTIR to get under the cap. Ryan Ellis comes to mind. Carey Price as well.

Once again the NHL opens up a giant can of worms it bred itself.

Robyn battled some demons, heck he might still be battling them. When he was healthy and played he was a warrior that's for sure.

Unfortunate end to his career.

I think this is it though - Lehner has had mental health issues in the past. He may have violated his contract by not rehabbing / reporting, but could argue his non report is because of mental health issues - the league doesn’t want to litigate / touch that. Vegas is happy to pay and not have it count against the cap and move on. And Vegas could likely cancel the contract, so perhaps it isn’t a gift to Vegas at all. I bet no bearing on Johansen situation.
