I think I've made it pretty clear about my frustration with WiFi, and you point out one of the main reasons - what has he done on the ice to show, other than throw fists and chicken wings, he deserves a spot?

He has spent more time out of games / in the box than actually on the ice.

I think Struble is ahead of him right now... he has had a quiet, yet decent, camp.

You can debate the outcomes, but you want to see guys sticking up for each other, even if it's messy. It's better than the alternative of being soft and getting pushed around.

Not to rewrite the blog but that's why I used to word "importance" when describing Xhekaj.

He did show he's important to the team because he can defend his teamates and answer with hits of his own when the other team takes liberties on our own players.

But he has yet to show what we most wanted him to when camp began, which is play a solid game that would solidify the third pair with Barron. Struble has shown way more of that last part.

I have no issue with the sticking up for each other - but punching a player in the back of the head with gloves still on or lifting the elbow to finish a check is just (frank)ing bush league that does not belong in the NHL.

I like WiFi, I like what he could bring to the team if he can stay focused.

What we saw the last few games makes him a hinderance.

I saw a Chris Nilan interview the other day where he basically said going "overboard" from time to time was part of the role.

I tend to agree with him. I'd rather we don't need him to do that at all, but we all know this isn't the case with the number of dirty players in the league.

Habs have been on the receiving end so many times, at some point having our own bumhole doesn't seem farfetched.

You think Reaves is in TO for his hockey prowess?

In the olden days Don Cherry would be sticking up for WiFi 100%. The lawyers in NYC tht have never worrn skates do nit understand hockey. A penalty for kneeing would never be enough. A penalty for a blind hit to Dach would never be enough. A penalty for cross checking Hudson in the face would never be enough. But the fear of losing your top scorer for the season should be the deterrent.

If I were the Leafs I would be very concerned that someone might want to go for his weak shoulders in payback.

The problem is the league rules. Simple solution. You knock someone out with a knee on knee, a head shot then you asume the cap hit and salary for the length of the injury.

The major difference is that WiFi plays D - if he spends lots of time in the box or gets kicked out, and you are down to 5D. and that hurts.

Much different if a 4th line forward gets plunked for those minutes.

original solution but it wouldn't work, teams would constantly be over the cap, I think you have to look elsewhere.
