My opinion on this, is that it's important to be able to play multiple styles of hockey. Your don’t have to play defense all the time. But in certain situations it's important to do if you wana win games. And it easy to teach players to play fast and shoot alot because it's fun for players. But if the situation needs it, then sometimes players just need to roll up their sleves and play some defense to win a hockey game.

Were there expectations that the team would be good this year?

Depends on who he’d be replaced by . If coach Q would take the job yes. Marty has done a good job considering what he inherited but to win championships ( which Montreal knew a lot about at one time ) you need a balanced system. Quenneville can provide that . In most cases I’ve seen through the years after a few seasons the coaches message become redundant , then they lose the room and it’s over. Perfect example Penguins and Blues . Sully wins a couple cups and is still hanging on but not successfully, Berube wins a cup and 4 1/2 years later he’s gone ! I think timing is everything in these type situations!

The team "style" is rebuilding. If player development is progressing well, Montreal should keep tanking to continue adding high quality prospects.

Maybe they are like the Flyers -- the FO thinks they are onto something when the fans know that they are sooooooooo far away from competing

The Marty experience is over! we need an experienced coach to move forward. 3 years in the rebuild and we have no progress to show. Q will not coach again. The best option is Hardley plus he has coached in the KHL, it will help with Demidov.

Great players don't necessarily equate to great coaches. Just because he is French Canadian doesn't mean he automatically suited for the job of head coach.

I think he's a great coach and he has the players' respect. He was given a very young and inexperienced team with minimal talent and he's got them outperforming most expectations. Marty is moving up the learning curve MUCH faster than the team is progressing and I think he'll be more than ready when the Canadiens are ready to contend. He makes everyone around him better and he is an inspiration, and I think the Habs will win a cup under St. Louis if they keep him.

Stepping away from Marty now would be a huge mistake.

I think that by US Thanksgiving we will know more about how MSL and his coaching abilities. Its the first time he's faced such a barrage of criticism from fans and press about the teams lack of urgency and prepardeness...they just seem flat at the start of every game..and that ultimately is the fault of the coach.......hes got to get them pumped up....lets see over the next 30 days.
