What season did teams not want top 6 centers and top 4 dmen?
Ristolainen is a 30 year old $5m/yr. 3RD. He's played his best in Philly because he's played the least of his career. When less is more, demand will be non-existent at full cap hit.

His play had improved from Buffalo playing less but the last two games where Ristolainen has played 20 and 25 mins in a top pair role due to injury and has played well. It is a really small sample size so any team making a trade for him because of 2 games would be extremely shortsided. Now if he continues this level of play for 2-4 weeks with York out then maybe a trade could be likely. Just hope Briere and Co dont fall in love with him if he does.

Why on earth would Carolina be looking for yet another defenseman when they already have far too many?

His play hasn't improved from Buffalo. Ristolainen went from being a top pairing defenseman in minutes played that at least could put up some points to a 3rd pair defenseman in limited minutes. With the offense basically drying up. He's been put in a lesser role with lower minutes just to be serviceable at best. He played really well in the Minny game but was again mediocre last night. As far as not running around anymore. The Flyers play a low zone collapse versus a man to man situation. It's equivalent to putting a dog on a leash and then claiming that you trained him not to run away. Put him back on a team with the different system and the same issues will come back.

I have a gently used Timothy Lillegren, I've been hearing he is an up and comer for several years now. Bidding is now open.

He said depth centers. Not top 6 centers. Some years everyone feels good about center depth but right now it's a big problem. These things go in waves. Seems like Shesterkin and Marner/Nylander are the top targets but after that probably lots of depth centre's and top 4 d-men.

Carolina has...

Slavin
Burns
Orlov
Gostisbehere
Chatfield
Walker

They obviously want to upgrade and send one of these guys to the press box. Hard to make a trade when 5 of them have NTCs and the 6th is Orlov making $7.8M which is effectively an NTC. Giordano is looking for work. So is Shattenkirk.

They also have rookie Scott Morrow, Ty Smith, Riley Stillman and Joakim Ryan who all have NHL experience. The D corps has played exceptionally well to start the year and the team has very little cap space.

Just say you don't watch them and have no idea what you're talking about. It's okay.

I don't know if the Ducks are really tring trade any players right now. It would just cause chaos. And right now Ducks Coach's need stability with the roster so they can make something happen.

And this is why if you don't DRAFT your #1 C and #1 D you will be behind the 8 ball as a team in perpetuity.

The Flyers have played the same d system for a couple of years now. Risto used to run around hitting people in that same system and now does not. Shaw is an outstanding assistance coach and has done a nice job with a few of their dmen including Riso.

I would agree that in the regular season he is a 3rd pair dman on a good team. in the playoffs he probably creeps up to a number 4dman.

His post says - depth center we all agree you need to draft high for a number 1. Of course you have to draft the right one (see Patrick).

Well, it says lots of teams are looking for top 4 d-men including Carolina. Just because they have 6 solid guys, more depth after that, and no cap space...they obviously are looking to upgrade after 10 games. Provolone is the top target. Although I wonder why Carolina didn't address this in the summer when they signed Ghost, Walker, and Chatfield to new contracts?

Ristolaionen on any playoff team is no where near the level of a number 4 defenseman. If what you're saying is true, the Flyers should have no trouble trading him for a solid return without retaining salary. The Flyers coaching staff as a whole, is mediocre
