The Fan Blog : Eklund on Flyers: Should Flyers be sellers and who should they be selling? - the_fan_blog
lets break it down:
1. Laughton is and has been a big part of s losing bad team. that def is invaluable.
2. Frostky who cares at this point. stay or go whatever. can't imagine he has much value. Can't imagine the CO-GM extracting the most value for him.
3. RR with retention could solidify a team's bottom pair. His physicality is extremely overrated. Though all that playoff experience will help.
4. ex selke is not the final piece for any team. if there was a chance for him to be moved, I imagine he would say yes asap. any move would require 50% retention or a simliar contract coming back the other team does not want.
Now the flyers can be both sellers and buyers if they choose that route. |

The Flyers have now had how long to do their evaluations? They finished last year in a free fall. They have won 9 games in regulation this year and the seasons half over….EK, is this a trick question? Why wouldn’t a team that needs so much not be HEAVY sellers? |

How to say the Flyers are not a well run team without saying the Flyers are not a well run team.

Scott Laughton’s name comes up a lot, but the Flyers aren’t going to take anything less than a first-round pick as of now, and why should they really? They can afford to wait until closer to the deadline. Besides, Laughton is a big part of this team and maybe more valuable in Philly than anywhere else.
This sounds like it came straight from the Flyers PR dept talking points for the media. It sounded stupid when Briere said the same thing almost word for word. It has not gotten any better with age.
A name that would have to take some creativity to move would be Sean Couturier. Sean‘s contract and no-movement clause would have to be overcome, but a true, solid center who’s won the Selke Award in the past could be the final piece on a Stanley Cup-contending team. And there are teams out there who have expressed interest in Couts. He is very well regarded around the league.
Couts is in a similar position as Scott Hartnell a decade ago, except there's no upside in buying out the final years of Couts contract like the BJ did for Hartnell and Couts doesn't have to go if he doesn't want to. His contract is worse than Hartnells. In the end both teams lost that trade, although the Flyers were on the hook for fewer years.
Couts is a Flyer for life no matter how much the Flyers want to move him. Fletch gave him complete security, control, and money. If he has to watch the next 5 years from the end of the bench he would still be getting paid 8 mill to watch hockey from ice level and there isn't a damn thing the Flyers can do about it except pay him 8 mill/yr to not play hockey. |

if they could move that contract (they can't) one would think ex selk would agree. then again, he learned under CC so is probably as comfortable as can be in no pressure living in anonymity philly

Anyone, including the Flyers front office, that actually thinks they are legitimately in the playoff hunt, needs to have their heads examined. |

Farabee and his 216 game playing streak are gone. I get that benching someone is the go-to move for Tortorella, but it rubs me wrong here to end a playing streak like this. Is JF really playing that bad to warrant this? |

3 points thus far for Claude versus the team he was called the world's best by Lavy after that series end. |

If they really love Hagens, this team has given them the opportunity with a real shot to get him. This coaching staff and roster is flawed enough to get the job done. Subtracting for picks is the way to go even if Risto salary needs to be retained. Trading players by the deadline proves Briere has learned something. |

Evaluations take a lot more time. Most of this team is young, you arent going to know how each player will develop until they hit about 25-26. The teams future depends on several young players. Many of which need to develop still.
Farabee is running out of time but still has a year or two to put it together
Frost you could maybe say has 1 year left. I dont think he gets that with PHI. Hopefully he doesnt break out after being traded like Schenn.
Tippett we know what we got with him.
Other players who are still developing are Foerster, Brink, York, Drysdale, Michkov
Briere is doing the right thing right now by letting things play itself out. They are listening on Risto and Laughton. Hopefully they can pull a trigger on a deal
The kind of deal PHI needs right now is a very rare type of deal. They are unlikely to get a player with the talent level they need via trade. Best to sit on our 3 Firsts and use em. Perhaps see if you can move up somewhere.
