Thanks for covering these $$$ issues. The escalating economics of sports is interesting and I anticipate a reset someday. |

Absolutely! Thank you for that. Things are changing, rapidly. You want the best for these athletes, but this is the one sport where if they don’t hit the $ it’s the players who are punished. Ignoring ratings etc feels crazy |

Name/Image/Likeness. It’s what made it possible for college athletes to get sponsors. Over on the youtube we did a 3 part series on just the football side. One athlete in Georgia broke his arm in December, around the 12th. He declared for the NFL draft. 4 days later he dropped out of the draft because he was offered 3.4m in NIL $ to transfer to Miami and play one year there. One team (Marshall) lost so many players they had to withdraw from a bowl game. If you haven’t heard of this, look it up. The videos show articles and sources. In hockey, if take a look, a player that has developed can be talked into staying for 4 years and get more $ than playing in the ahl. Name/Image/Likeness turned football upside down. NCAA hockey now has CHL players coming, an “infinite” transfer portal where you’re not limited into how many schools you play for. This is changing the landscape quickly |

Just read about a rumor from Elliotte Friedman the Wings are targeting Dyan Cozens from Buffalo in a trade. Also mentioned Bowen Byram as an option.
The report said:
"According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the player the Red Wings are targeting from Buffalo is forward Dylan Cozens. The 2019 draftee is a big-bodied forward who some think could break out with a fresh start, but there’s another 2019 draftee Detroit should look at acquiring."
"The Sabres acquired Byram from the Avalanche last year in exchange for center Casey Mittelstadt. Like Byram, Mittelstadt was/is a former top-10 pick that needed a new opportunity. the Red Wings don’t have many players that fit that description, but there is a sense that the Sabres are looking to add quality veterans to their young lineup. The Red Wings have plenty of those, and that may be the basis of the reported Cozens deal – and it could be the basis of a Byram trade as well."
This is definitely intriguing if true. A fresh start may very well be what Cozens needs... and he's a young talented center. Gotta be tough playing for that team / organization the way things have gone. Bowen Byram could add some much needed young depth on the blue line this team desperately needs. |

Yeah, we talked a little about that last week (maybe the week before?). It sounds like 6 teams are looking at Cozens. This is a kid you may consider offering a prospect/pick/young player (no clue what the ask is). If they come asking Danielson, Berggren/2nd rounder I don’t know what the org would do. Buffalo has blue line skill for sure

Interestingly, DeAngelo just got a gig with NYI. He has to clear re-entry waivers but no one showed any interest over the summer. Detroit has been on the bad end of signing a player and losing them on re-entry waivers. Wonder if anyone will grab him |

Thinking Mittelstadt will be made available soon as the Avs acquired Necas and Drury from the Canes. Necas wants to play C but may have to suffice with playing on Nate's wing......I think he could settle for that. |

Gotta give more salary than that, Detroit has less than $5M in cap space.
