Per tournament rules, Hughes, who is the older brother of Team USA and New Jersey Devils center Jack Hughes, would only be eligible to play if there is another injury on Team USA's defense."
So he is joining the team but can only play if one of the original six on the roster (excluding mcavoy) can’t go. That is in line with my understanding of the rules, where you can only have a replacement player if two forwards and/or two defensemen can’t go. |

Hmmm.
What they said surrounding Canada and Harley was that they could bring in the extra dman if and when they only had 5 healthy on the roster.
I guess that was situational. No reason it should be restricted to the same position that is unavailable. |
