I certainly hope it is the first step. The team needs a retool badly. We know management is not going to change (though it should). What I am hoping for is the realization their window is closed and locked. That this has triggered a sea change in drafting, development and free agency mindset. Otherwise this is going to be a long drawn out exercise in failure.

From last thread:

Actually play a full 200ft game. Did you watch where he was and what he was doing on Stamko's goal? I'll give you a hint, he was where he usually is in the d-zome near the top of the slot watching and waiting for a breakaway opportunity. Leadership isn't a popularity contest.

Why is it Pastrnak's role to play a 200ft game? He is an elite scoring winger, not a center or a role playing bottom six forward. Why? Is it his salary?

I was at that game last night. Where was E. Lindholm(The alleged 200ft center) or the D? Why couldn't Swayman stop a (frank)ing beach ball last night?

Please explain this gem of take to me. Could be the dumbest thing I've read on here in months. And this is Hockeybuzz which is (frank)ing saying something.

I could not understand that post from previous thread either.
Here's my response...
-----------------------------------
FFS dude look at his stats like hits. He has double the hits of some of his peers in the top 10.

Sure he's not Bergeron - but then again that's not his role.

He carries this team - without him they would be near the very bottom. Has nothing to do with "popularity". He's doing the job he's paid to do.

You are the one who said he is well liked in the room as part of the justification for wearing the A....hence my comment about popularity. It's not rocket science to put those two concepts together.

Pasta is the only player on the team I can't blame. The entire cast is underperforming around him and despite that he is still bringing effort every night. He is the only reason to turn the game on. Without him, we are at the bottom of the league. Literally. This roster failed David Pastrnak.

You sure you aren't ready to sell Swayman? He is losing me with each passing day. ZERO ZERO desperation out of him. I honestly can't think of a player that went from adored to hated in such a short period of time here in Boston.

Lindholm has never been a flashy player but he has been pretty good of late. He dominated the faceoff dot last night. Silver linings.

Swayman started to lose me with his whining about arbitration, lost me some more for the holdout and doubled down with his I want to reset the goalie market self-importance comments. I would have ignored all those things had he lived up to the contract he held out for...he has not. Frankly, I'm not convinced his holdout/comments didn't poison the room this season.

And to set the record straight, I like Pasta (all kinds, lasagna, spaghetti, ravioli :lol and am glad he's is on the team. I'm also realistic to the warts in his game...he's not perfect.

A close one would be Raycroft... Calder winner ==> traded after 1 more season.

But he did net us Rask.

I'll ride another season with Sway. It's not like the team is improving. And swayman doesn't exactly scream value at the moment. So wanting to sell, and able to sell are two very different things

Roll him next year. At this point he gets to own his contract. Maybe nets us a lottery pick next year, who knows how far the tumble will be. The team in front of the tender isn't getting you any closer to a cup.
