Reading some of the comments by Dubas. I do wonder if he has put some of the groundwork in for a Karlsson deal in the summer. Hopefully we see some more deals soon. It seems like an exciting deadline for us

The Pettersson trade looks even better now right? They got rid of one of the cap dumps they accepted and even got a late pick back.

I kind of loved MB's speed, passion for the game and scoring touch - when displayed. He certainly wasn't hurting the team by any stretch.
The key to this trade is the gamble on Novak. Is he gonna trend up, flat or down? 2025 is a down year (on a bad team) and if it is any indication of a trend , the gamble wont be a succes.
However, if he finds his game in PIT or even stays the course (20G) it is a sensible trade.

Reminder to Pens fans: realistically, the only way Dubas can clean this mess (part of it being his own doing) and contain the pain to a couple seasons, is by improving the roster incrementally, pieces by pieces. This is not a video game. There are smart GMs at the other end of a trade as well. You wont get Stutzle for Jarry, Graves and a 3rd rounder ...

Yes, thats right. It was either Brunike or Howe picked with that 2nd. I like both of those selections.

Koivunen is now almost a ppg player in AHL. Thats always a good sign for younger guys down there but not a be all, end all indictor of ending up a constant NHLer, of course.

That trade is looking better today. Brunicke is a first rounder if they did a redraft. And Koivunen has had a great rookie year and is more of a battler than any reports I've seen. Both could be middle of the lineup players.

Unfortunately Bunting sort of washed out and Ponomarov is looking like someone who might end up on waivers. Hopefully he gets a look to end the year, but they just added a C, and he's third line on WBS.

Bunting needs to be on a good team to be valuable. No idea why the Preds traded for him. The Guentzel trade always hinged on what else we got for Bunting. Will be interesting to see if Novak makes that trade look better or worse

I hope Bunting plays well and wins Nashville some games and moves them up the standings a bit as we continue our tank this season. I am hoping Novak learns our system and plays great next season.

That seems like a lot for Dumo, even with ANA retaining half the cap hit. He has value, but he is no spring chicken

Makes me want to move Graves with these prices. Even if it's for future considerations in 2035

Would definitely need to retain some salary/cap hit, if so.

Wilding different trading markets. Apples and oranges at this point.

Like I said these prices are crazy high... Pettersson AND DOC got traded for a 1st, 3rd rnd prospect and 2 cap dumps.

Dumo got traded for a 2nd and a 3rd rnd prospect Dumo is a 6th dman at this point...

Trading Rakell at these prices IMO is critical. Along with Schenn, Grzel, Acciari, Beau. Schenn and Grzel were "projected" by different places to have the same value as Dumolin

I'd have gladly traded Gryz for that. While I think Gryz is much better than Dumo at this point, they are probably looking for the reliability of a guy like Dumo on their bottom pair.

It feels like Gryz is more serviceable than Dumo. He ran the 1st PP ... which proved much more successful this year vs last. That's a big plus, IMO.

I didn't mind the trade, but this quote from Servalli is pretty funny, lol.

"On the surface, this is arguably the dumbest hockey trade that's been executed in the last 25 years. These two teams that are so far out of it shouldn't even be allowed to call each other when it comes to the trade deadline. I'm not even kidding."

You won't be able to fully judge it for 2 or 3 years. If Brunike becomes a top 4 D and Koivunen becomes a top 6 forward (big ifs), it will be a great deal. Guentz was an UFA. The Novak for Bunting deal sounds like a moderate trade-up from what I've read.

I agree, but I can't imagine Dubas turned that down so NJ must have thought differently.

Hopefully we grab some picks and maybe Dubas can flip them for some young talent. The clock is ticking and he needs to work quick if that is his plan.
