How many times have the Bruins celebrated the cup victory over 6 months ago?
It is Thomas's right to do whatever he wants to do. Yes it is a team thing but I think his team mates will let it slide. I bet the Bruins are more worried about repeating than last year's cup victory. |

If he doesn't know if its "fair or not" he should probably just resign right now. Dirtbag thing for a "journalist" to imply and I hope there are repercussions for him. |

Paul - I have a differing stance on the Thomas situation and the need to respect the office and title, but this was a very balanced and well thought out piece on the subject. Good work. |

Don't get suckered in people. This is an issue because the PRESS is making it an issue. It's what they do. Stir the pot to get people up in arms. It's job security.
That said, if you don't want to bring someone's political view out, don't send them to the White House. Ok, it wasn't a political event, but you can't make it much more of a political venue.
So he's passionate about his views and beliefs. Does that hurt your feelings?
Bottom line, who CARES id he didn't go to the White House?!?! Do you? Really? Really? |

Dave Hodge should be fired for posting that crap. It's disgusting to make such an accusation for his line of profession. |

It takes a pretty vulgar display of irresponsible journalism to appear to be less professional than Matt Barry. Congratulations Dave Hodge. |

Thanks...
A lot of people have different stances, and they are to be respected... I guess I'd just like to see us be able to politically disagree without the vitriol and understand that when it all comes down we are one country... again... hopelessly polyanna!

Agree. (Very poor & disturbing comment from the so-called journalist Dave Hodge. It's so low it doesn't even merit a "poor taste" description.) |

It's the same here in Canada. Saskatchewan recently re-elected a Right(ish) party here at the Provincial level, when I logged onto Facebook the next morning I thought I had woken up on Alderaan and Grand Moff Tarkin had been re-elected. People's obsession with making politics a zero sum game is ridiculous, its not a finite battle between good and evil. |

Rasheed Wallace did something similar to G.W Bush when the Pistons won in '04. I don't remember on the front page of my internet provider when I fired it up that morning.
With that said, very well balanced and excellent Paul. I do believe this is about the team. Most people who don't agree politically with a president are able to put that aside for a couple of hours.
With that said, maybe Tim feels this is a bigger issue to bring to light?...Maybe his love for his country is greater than his love for his team?..these are all very personal and I defer to your first paragraph when all is said and done. |

So everyone that is letting Thomas exercise his "freedom of speech" for voicing his opinion on politics and taking a stand, wants Hodge fired for his "freedom of speech" in a twitter message that was an obvious joke.? |

It doesn’t change his responsibility for the disrespect shown to a constitutionally mandated office, you know, the document he says he is so committed to?
Cant I fully respect the office without meeting the man?
How is going to the office and taking a picture with a Bs jersey that says Obama showing respect to the office?

Wow, you seriously equate the two? Do you understand what libel is? You think that a personality attached to a National Media Outlet implying that an athlete is a member of the Klan with absolutely zero basis, even in a joking manner, is kosher?

Aside from the clearly racial aspect, Hodge just made "an obvious joke" using Thomas' 3 young children as the punchline. Their names are now out in the media and I would be willing to bet those three will also face the results of it in their respective schools. Paul might be able to answer this more, but I don't believe the media (and Hodge is a main stream media) should ever reference any athelete's children unless they are already famous on their own accord, particularily one's who are just kids. |
