Bill Meltzer: Flyers Gameday: 4/5/12 vs. Sabres - bmeltzer
I don't see the Saturday game meaning anything unfortunately. THe Rangers don't have anything to play for anymore, so I don't expect them to put their best foot forward. Then, I am sure the Pens will sit all of your star players and Saturday's game will not live up to expectations. |

Our first game in house in over a year. Wife and I are very excited.
Now if we can just have the last 40 minutes of the ranger game played for an entire 60 tonight, that would be great. |

agreed. i don't even care who/where they play/start the playoffs. just get there with no further injury and a dose of confidence.
i'm most interested in bryz's performance, not necessarily the outcome of the game.

is it possible that the caps can still get the #3 seed, by winning both their remaining games and florida losing theirs? they'd be tied in points, and since the caps have more regulation/ot wins the caps would have the tie breaker. if the flyers lose their games and jersey wins theirs, and the flyers drop to #6, they could play the caps.
far fetched, but it is possible, yes? |

Flyers would need to lose both in regulation and New Jersey would need to win both.
Yes, the Caps scenario is still possible due to their tiebreaker advantage.

If Saturday's game becomes meaningless for playoff implications, do you see the flyers resting anyone to avoid injury or do you think Laviolette would want to set the tone heading into a first round match up with the pens? |

Bill, is there something wrong with Gustaffson? I am wondering why they choose to play Bourdon over him. From what I've seen Gus seems much smarter in his own end than Bourdon. |

But if the Sabres lose in regulation and the Capitals win by any means over Florida tonight, then Washington is in and Buffalo is out. - bmeltzer
The Flyers need to win out and go into the playoffs rolling. The bonus would be playing spoiler to Buffalo tonight.
Oh, that would be sweet.

Timonen for sure. Possibly Bryzgalov as well.

Gustafsson lacks size and strength so he needs to be more of difference maker in terms of making an offensive impact. Right now, they think Bourdon has more to offer.

Is Timonen carrying one of his season long nagging injuries again? Or is it more of a combination of issues just wearing him down? Seems he's in this position every year. I was really hoping and expecting them to keep his time low this season until Pronger went down and people stated dropping like flies. |

Agreed. Not a fan of the dropping to 6th thing. We've matched up well against the Pens this year and I'd rather enter with confidence than stumble in wih two losses hoping to drop to 6th. |

I want them to play well over the next two games, regardless of winning or losing. I also don't give a rat's ass about seeding. Just avoid anymore injuries before the playoffs.
People seem worried about Pittsburgh in the first round, but I mean, what good is beating Florida? It's not likely that you will face Carolina or Winnipeg in round two. You're going to have to beat New York, Boston or Pittsburgh(likely two of the three) to get out of the east.
I think that the Flyers can beat any team in the East. I won't be any happier if they beat a supposedly weak team and get steamrolled by NY in round two. |

Yep, rather face one of the best teams early, before they are further banged up. Take them out early. Plus, we've faired very well against them. |

Oh, you of the level head.
Sure, solid efforts alone would work, especially in their own zone, but I wouldn't mind seeing a bit of dominance to close out the season.
I don't want them looking at Saturday just yet, either. Focus on tonight. |
