reading his quotes again is enough to make me ill....absolute delusion.
burke is without a doubt the guy I wanted for this job, when he talked about all the mean nasty hockey coming to toronto and building from the net out, I was ready to wait for that to grow.
listening to his bullshat today almost 4 years later, about how he is going to acquire 4-5 big bodies so he can play a mean nasty style, and how he needed to address the goaltending, just came across as empty promises coming from a sad and defeated soldier. |

It's not like what he talks about is a lie. I mean he clearly knows what the team needs, but he clearly doesn't realize that you can't just snap your fingers and these guys will appear on your roster. |

i agree, you know we are screwed because he appears to have lost objectivity. its funny, sometimes if you are too close to something you can't see it properly. its like all those parents that love their kids so much they can't see what absolute idiots they are. he thinks we need a # 1C and a backup goalie, plus get a little bigger. that sounds just dandy

Burke has got the best players available at the time, without selling out! I believe he will get us there for two reasons! Firstly, the farm has way more young prospects, and secondly because he cares! Other GMs know we are being pressed by the fan base and media and try to take advantage of that when talking deals! The tide will soon flip as our prospects start to shine! They can start by winning the AHL championships! |

I don't know that ending up at 6th is the end of the world. I don't know that there is a whole lot of difference between 5th and 6th |

Burke did say one thing that I agree with. I'm not a phaneuf fan and I think he's been overhyped since the "Double Dion" nonsense Maguire got caught up in but this idea that Dion is captain and he needed to be a bigger leader (ala Mark Messier) is nonsense. No team in the NHL today has a captain that is the only voice and all players look to him for inspiration. The Leafs needed leaders outside of their captain to stand up but those players are clearly not on the roster. Its one thing to be critical of Dion as captain, fans have their say, but its not all on him from the players side.
Also, does it annoy Leaf fans at all that when some of the players, Reimer especially, are talking and seemingly laughing or smiling about how the season fell apart when being interviewed? I see Kessel and Dion talking and they look angry and beaten down, as I would feel in the same situation, but guys chuckling about it would tick me off both as a fan and a team mate. |

That's just kinda the way he is. An "aw shucks" kinda guy and I'm pretty sure his team mates get that.
He's deeply religious so who knows WTF goes on in his head.

Everyone wants a #1 Goalie but where dod you expect Burke to get one from right away?
Top goalies are rarely available in FA, almost never are available for trading, and most are drafted and take a long time to develop from within. So how do you expect him to aquire a top goalie? Is it Schnieder or bust? And what assests would you give up for him? |

If Bryz's contract is any indication of what the going rate for a #1 goalie in UFA is, Burke is going to have to bend on his contract length philosophy or lose out to other teams.
From a Sens perspective, adding a #1 goalie doesn't seem that easy a deal. We toyed with the position for years and seemingly finally have one. Painful when you don't. |

Burke has had almost 4 years to find a goalie....it honestly isn't that hard.
Reimer needs either a challenger or a mentor or ideally both.
It couldn't have been more obvious that Gustavsson wasn't going to be that guy. |

i disagree. there are a lot top level goalies that have landed on their respective teams via trade, unfortunately, you usually pay and arm and leg for them. |

I think he'll get a young'ish, potential to be a decent #1 in the league, someone perhaps a little older than Reimer. What Craig Anderson or Mike Smith were a couple of years ago.
Not saying they're the answer but Bernier or Harding is my guess.

Exactly. A true #1 goalie is hard to come by. I mean looking at my own team, we are the luckiest SOBs ever for our situation. We had no #1 goalie since Richter and did our best to address it. We drafted Blackburn #9th overall I believe, freak injury and hes done. Draft Montoya #6th overall and I still wouldnt say he panned out. And somehow a goalie we draft in the 7th round in 2000 is the savior. You can want to address to goalie situation all you want but it's really not that easy to. |
