Everybody needs to play close attention anytime the Senators select a Dman with the 15th pick. |

Lohaus is going to get you Brian.
Maata will shock people. Super young and had to adjust to NA. |

Maata is amazing. He was just so solid and consistent for the Knights this year. Living in London, I also got to see him live about 15 times and I was amazed at how well he adapted to the NA style. Would be a great pick for Ottawa. |

This is one of the super young players who is nearly a full year younger than some of the older kids (Yakupov). The strong playoff performance is consistent with the really younger kids. He appears to be a great pick. |

It sounds like this guy could ultimately replace the hole that Runblad left when he was traded, in terms of an legit defensive prospect with offensive upside. Maata is a good pick at the 15 spot.
I think we are missing something on him though because he is talked about as if he is a top 5 prospect when he is not (clearly, since this blog is all about the 15th pick). I have heard more negative things said about Dumba, Murray, etc.
Even though Maata is probably a very solid pick, I'd like to see the Sens move up and get Ceci or Reinhart (even Murray, but that is more unlikely). |

Essentially Maatta is seen as a potential 3-4 rather than the top pairing upside that others see in Reinhart, Murray, Dumba, Ceci, Trouba, Koekkoek, etc. |

good job on this series of blogs, i've enjoyed each one. i'm sure you won't have all the picks correct, but no one ever does, there's always a team that reaches. i like your explanations for the rationale behind the teams motivations for the picks. i hope the flyers get Koekkoek, he'd be a great prospect. keep up the good work it's fun to read. |

Would you compare Maatta to Sami Salo? Solid Dman who makes the team better but is never going to be a Noris contender, yet he wont cost you with a dumb penalty.

No matter who Ottawa drafts this team NEEDS D-MEN!
Pairing 1: _____- Karlsson
Pairing 2: Cowen-Gonchar
Pairing 3: Phillips-_______
Extras: Weircoich, Boro
I would like to see Matt Carkner signed along with a Ottawa native in Kurtis Foster. He would be a depth d-men that may play only 20 games but he would be a big body presence and brings tons of experience to the table at a reasonable price. Huskins, O'Donnell, Sarich-- their all worth a look... ofcourse another dman at a bigger price will be needed to replace kuba |

I have no issue with this pick at all. The "realistic" guy I want is Ceci since he's awwesome and from here but he won't be there at 15, so we'd have to find a trading partner that makes sense to move up x amount of spots, likely only a couple. If that doesn't occur, and Maata is still sitting there, he's fine by me. I also wouldn't throw a fit if we gamble on Koekkoek here either being an Ottawa Valley boy and all and having all the natural tools to be a stud. |
