Totally agree, I think in the long term Johnson will be more of an asset to his team as a defensmen than JVR will be as a forward.

We don't need to trade when there is plenty of free agents that we can sign.

Make it something interesting like Schenn and JVR or Couturier and JVR, but a 40 point forward for a top pairing d-man is just awful.

im not the biggest Johnson fan but this is the only way i make this trade. JVR has to many question marks with him. and if we did this trade we would have to send big money to Suter in hopes to sign him so we could get a top 2 Dman.

There better be a lot more coming back besidse a first round pick. I love EJ's game the last half of the season, he is starting to come into his own, a realiable top pairing D-Man.

Only way I can see this balancing out is if we get 2 top 6 fowards (one being a natural centremen), like Schenn and JVR, so we can trade Stastny off for a D-Man

I dont like the idea to begin with, but if we were offered something in that realm, you might have to think about it before hanging up the phone on Homer

or how about a 3 way deal:

Philly: Johnson, Col 2nd
Ana: JVR, Schenn, Barrie, Philly 3rd
Col: Ryan, Rights to Carle

Might be some better players to plug in but it gives Philly there Dman, Ana gets a second line and a young puck moving dman, Col gets a goal scoreing winger and the chance to sign Carle.

I really have to wonder about the state of JvR's overall health considering how hard the Flyers have been trying to include him in just about every trade.

Wouldn't do it, as we gave up a lot for Johnson to give up on him now. Then we would have a huge hole in the 1-2 pairing as Johnson is the only one who fits in there now.

Having carle signed would be a big thing but his rights are not worth anything if the Avs couldnt sign him, so thats where Schenn would come in.

Apparently JVR is getting traded to every team. Huge red flag there. Hasn't he also had a bunch of pretty serious injuries? I would not make that deal if I was the Avs.

Huh? Jvr was on pace for 30 goals before his injury. I think thats pretty valuable for any team

Philly isnt gonna trade Schenn. He is theyre 2nd line center next year. He had a stellar playoffs. He and Couturier are gonna be a beast of a combo behind Giroux and Hartnell.

Also after giving up way to much to get EJ. Avs better hold onto him and develop him. You guys could use JVR. But not for EJ. Not saying either team gets the upper hand or anything. But the Avs are deeply invested in him.

Not serious injuries, unlucky ones. Like when he dove to block a shot and it broke his foot. He has atleast shown some heart

Offense is actually weaker. Defense was a lot better last year, a lot of that because of Johnson. It just doesn't look like when the Flames see us because the Avs play terrible against Calgary.

The Avs have a lot of players and prospects on the defensive front but none of them outside Johnson promise to be top pairing players.

This is why signing Suter and keeping Johnson makes perfect sense.
