Morning Bill.
I 100% back the Doan/3rd pair d man approach.
That might take them right up to the cap and then they could have Pronger's LTIR money to work with once the season starts.
I realize they style of play comes into account, but honestly, what would be the difference to signing a 35 year old Doan to 4 years and a 40 year old jagr to 1 year. |

Provocative.
Do the Flyers really want Parise or Suter? Is it possible that the Flyers concern is the Pens acquiring either player and this has motivated them to push the bidding up and out of sight?
If the Flyers got Parise and took a cap hit of $8m, how do they handle the cap issues and still fill in their defensive needs? Suter is an easier arrangement because of the need for a #1D. No doubt Holmgren has a plan, but from a distance it looks like a high wire financial act. |

GD Tocchet is smart.
As i've been saying, go for Doan. Keep powder dry. Get Weber next year. Or any of the Anaheim guys next year.
Patience. |

Bill, these offers, are they sent as "signed", or just a "proposal"? I mean, if the player agree, it's a deal or what? |

At this point... just go get Bobby Ryan.

I agree with most, pull out the offers for both players. Sign a guy like Doan or Jagr, either let Carle walk, or stick with the initial offer to him. Go out get a good D-man and go after Weber either this season with a trade or next offseason.
This whole "decision" is screwing up Free Agency....1/2 the guys should be signed by now, not hanging in Limbo...... |

Jagr on a one year deal doesn't count as an over 35 deal that stays on the cap no matter what. The over 35 rule only comes into play on multi year deals.

If they added Parise, I think they'd trade a forward for defensive help. |

But, if Suter walks, the speculation is that Weber is put on the market the next day. Nashville will not be stung twice. The assumption has to be that Weber is prepared to sign the big deal this year. The new CBA will likely place some limits on contract length and this year is Weber's chance to cash in. You know that Nashville has to offer him the equivalent of Suter's deal, or more. |

Doan won;t sign before the 7th or 8th, and guys like Carle likely won't until the Suter ball drops. |

Yeah, Doan's waiting to see if the Coyotes will stay in PHO. If Jamison takes over and has enough support, Doan could stay put. |

Thats why I say put together a package for Weber now...have it on the table, lets be honest Suter is walking. |

Understand. They would have to move some big bucks as well from this year's cap hit. I don't doubt they have it figured out. But, the second part of the operation might be larger than the a big time free agent signing (Parise). |

parise had 69 points last season. granted, he had the ACL injury the year before, but was still a -5 this season. playoffs, 8 goals 7 assists -8 in 24 playoffs games. good, but hardly great.
these contract offers are a joke. |

Doan said he'd sign the 9th at the earliest, which means as long as coyotes ownership is straightened out I see him as wanting to stay there.
Should we not land Parise I look to the trade route I'm not impressed with the UFA wingers out there. |

As soon as the word comes down on Suter and Parise, assuming it is not Philly, the Flyers will make a trade for Bobby Ryan within the hour.
Bobby Ryan will be a Flyer to start the season. |

Why trade for Weber? Look at this market... There's no chance he doesn't test free agency. I don't care who trades for him, he's not signing with anyone before July 1st 2013 in my opinion.
Let's just focus on having a solid young team put together come then and convince him why Philly is the best choice for him. If this core stays intact that won't be hard. |

Suter 2012 PO stats: 10 Games, 1G, 3A, -5.
Career PO stats: 39 Games, 4G, 9A, -4.
Not exactly what I'd call stepping up. |
