Surprised if Doan goes anywhere other than Vancouver. Everything points to his signing on with the Canucks. |

I hope your right JJ.
Doan would be a great addition to this team.
Hope they make a play as well to get Bernier.
Plekanec would also be a nice addition.
Give us somebody....we're starving |

JJ the package starts with Hammer, but where does it end? Hammer, Pirri, and a late pick? |

I just posted this re: Doan on the last thread. Here it is again.
Doubtful that he goes to the 'hawks, IMO, and here's why. He lives off-season right here in Kamloops, his wife is from here, he runs a charity golf tourney and he also is part owner of the Kamloops Blazers of the WHL. You should see the size of the house he is building here. Massive. He has a summer home at a nearby lake.
What does all that have to do with where he signs. Well, Tom Gaglardi, new owner of the Stars also has a share in ownership of the WHL Blazers. It is also fairly evident that Doan will retire to this city when he's done playing, and he could sign with any of the Canucks, Oilers or Flames in which case he would be no more than an hour (as the crow flies) from home. He wants to win, so the Canucks would seem like the obvious choice. Failing that he may sign with Gaglardi's Stars. If I were betting, a)he stays in Phoenix or b) signs with the Canucks, c) with the Stars a possible 3rd destination. |

JJ does it look as though Stan is burning bridges with these other GM's by pulling the plug late in trade talks or do you think he really is doing a good job at not being baited into a bad move? |

JJ - how many more times can we hear something like this:
"Though that source says the Hawks have come close on numerous deals before backing off "at the last minute."
... before it becomes extremely concerning.
That was one thing I loved about Dale Tallon... he wasn't afraid to make moves when he deemed it necessary. |

John Jaeckel: More Habs/Hawks; Hawks "BIG" on Doan - John Jaeckel
Pretty sure i read yesterday from Adrian Dater that his agent said Doan and the Sharks have mutual interest.. is he just goin around and sayin theres mutual interest with a bunch of teams...
Also dont buy all the everything points to him signing in Vancouver. Until he signs they have as good a shot as anyone, but i wouldnt bet on them

I really like Plekanec. Very good player that would be a great fit with Hossa....
If this trade happens, hopefully we get something decent in return because it would be a huge loss. |

From the previous thread:
If Doan leaves Phoenix, word is he wants to stay in the Western Conference. I can't see Vancouver being in on Doan, unless they are willing to either spend over the cap, or move "he who should not be named" first. I would think doing the former would further weaken Gillis' position to trade "he who should not be named" even more than it already is. If teams are smart, they shouldn't be looking to help Vancouver by trading for "he who should not be named" until Doan has signed.
Unless Doan is willing to play in Vancouver for $3 million per, or Vancouver can clear out some more cap space. Perhaps Gillis is willing to go over the cap to sign him, and worry about clearing space later?
Doan to the Canucks doesn't sound like a solid idea at the moment, at least to me.

That was the most telling thing I read in the blog. Pretty soon, Dale's team will be better than Stan's team. Kinda sad.
Doan would check a lot of boxes for this team. Protection, space, grit, occasional face-off and much needed leadership (a new voice, not saying Toews is bad). I would give Doan a 3 year deal and front load the schnikies out of it. 3 years/17M. 1st year, $10M, 2nd year = $6M, 3rd year = $1M. Give him a no trade but let him go back to Winnipeg to finish his career, which makes the $1M palatable for the franchise looking to acquire him. |

JJ - Is StanBo gun shy or can he not get his tail tucked out under his legs and actually make a deal? Is he getting a bad rap among other GM's? Don't know if you have heard anything regarding this. |

Wouldn't that hurt you down the middle too much though? It's not like the Hawks have a lot to offer at the centre position (maybe Kruger in a larger deal).
Who would be your 4 C's if this happened.
Just curious. |

One must assume that Luongo will not be on the books at the beginning of the year. |

If it starts with Hammer and involves prospects then they should probably do it. |
