NOt to defend the rumour but Philly has 2 mill in deadline cap space. Simmonds cap hit is only going to be what is left on his 1 year deal. I dont know the exact number but I'd guess it would only be 1.2 mill this late in the season. Just saying Cap wouldnt be an issue.
I dont see the Flyers being interested in Simmonds. |

1) Flyers are looking primarily at center depth.
2) The cap math doesn't work, even if NJ eats 50%. Flyers don't have enough even with LTIR allowance unless they move Raffl back to center and sound down a forward who doesn't require waivers (Bunnaman being more likely than Farabee).
3) Flyers already have 3 right-shot wingers in the lineup, and none among Konecny, Pitlick or Aube-Kubel is coming out of the lineup right now.
4) Chuck Fletcher chose not to offer Simmonds an extension last year -- Wayne wanted to stay -- and moved him at the deadline. What, apart from sentimental reasons for all Simmer meant in the room and to fans, has Wayne done in NJ to convince Philly to reverse course and rent him for this spring?

Guess that puts philly out of this rumour lol. Ek must have meant someone else...

I’m not saying Wayne to Philly makes sense but in addition to retaining 50% the Devils could take back a contract so it’s not impossible because of math. |

That's not how it works. Flyers have just shy of $71,000 in open cap space. When you add LTIR allowance into it (which is not bankable), they have $2.08 million.
That's not enough to acquire Simmonds even if NJ ate half his $5M cap hit.
Just the math alone doesn't work out, disregarding the hockey considerations of how lineup would have to be adjusted to make that work cap wise. |

But Philly isn't looking to move a contract unless it's Gostisbehere's; and I don't think they'd do that to rent Simmonds for a few weeks even if they are down on Ghost.

Absolutely true. But NJ is flush with draft picks and short on defenders so it could be part of a larger deal.
Totally unlikely but not completely impossible.
Also want to say you do great work! |

Simmer was great here but Stall would be a better fit for the team. Not sure they’ll do anything but another big center would make a heck of a team down the middle. I would think fletch wants to do something due to the years circumstances but don’t kill the mojo. This team has found an identity |
