A veteran forward needs to be signed now. I am thinking jagr unless an upgrade on him is available via fa. I think they should still sign carle as timonen is done after this year. Unless they can get something better.
If jvr thought it was hard to play in Philly look out in Toronto. He will be under the microscope. He still could turn into a 30 goal guy. Should be a good trade for both teams.
The bonus for Philly is they played majority of the year without jvr so like you were saying bill the offence should not take a big hit. |

Jvr is a little enigma. I wouldnt say he didnt develop...his stats went up year 2 and then he got hurt.
He can go down the wing and drive the net exceptioanlly well. He has size and speed. He can score around the net.
He just doesnt channel all this talent yet and isnt a consistent threat. I dont think he is lazy, he just isnt mean. But for such a young player i think you guys got a steal. The only question is injuries, and I have no idea on that. |

No dice on any more positive views of JVR.
JVR represents a total failure of both luck and will.
The Flyers were, by far, the worst team in the NHL in the year before they drafted JVR. Losing the coin flip was brutal. The Flyers needed a Stamkos or a Crosby out of that draft, and instead got JVR. To compare Kane and JVR in the five seasons since they were drafted:
Kane has scored 369 points(73.8 /season), JVR 99 (19.8 /season)
Kane played in the NHL away JVR hid in college for two years.
In the 2010 playoffs JVR was a healthy scratch and Pat Kane partied on our ice with a Cup.
And then the injuries started.
I've seen enough.
Bye. |

penner?
I say we wait. I see the following:
Harts g. Voracek
Read. Briere. Simmonds
Talbot. Coots. Schenn
Wellwod. Sestito. Zac. Etc. on fourth.
We could use a winger for sure but i am tempted to wait until trade deadline and let the kids play. |

Great read. No one can say they are shocked that JvR got traded, but now if Homer wants to trade again who does he uses? |

If Lopul can succeed in Toronto, JVR should put up 50! |

2 things concerned me about L. Schenn when watching him play against the flyers last year.
-He seemed to struggle with making the subtle puck moving plays in his own end (plays that Timonen is so good at), leading to turnovers.
-He is real slow agility wise. Skating is a big issue so he has to have perfect positioning.
He is an upgrade to the Flyers blue line. Time will tell if he is the right piece. I am hopeful he can pair well with Mez, allowing Mez to pinch and really push the play in the offensive zone with our 3rd pairing.
My initial feeling is I don't like this trade, but also can't blame the flyers too much if they feel JVR and Giroux will never work out together and they are skeptical with JVR's hip going forward. |

I believe this is a risk-reward situations for both teams at this point. Both guys have similiar higher ceilings, I would take top-pairing d-man as equally as a 30 goal scorer. Certainly, right now both Coots and Schenn are pretty much untouchable in my opinion.
I think the Flyers will try to get another high end winger in free agency. Certainly, Parise will be the main target (certainly lots of competition) and Jagr is potentially a fall back option.
However, I just wonder if they will have any interest in Semin as a fall back after Parise. And please, the guy isn't Zherdev.
Semin - NHL Games Played - 469 -Goals - 197 Assists - 211 Totals - 408 +65
Zherdev -NHL Games Played-421 - Goals- 115 Assists - 146 Totals- 261 -40
Semin's best years were playing under Boudreau's two man forecheck scheme. I believe Lava's scheme is similiar. I'm merely pointing out options to get another scoring winger, which is still necessary.
At this point, I would be suprised if they trade anyone else off the roster, maybe a smaller transaction to free up a contract spot. Any additions will now be made thru free agency. It would be nice to potentially find a really good faceoff specialist. |

Flyers need Jagr back now IMO. Resign Jagr and Voracek and lets roll with this group. Adjust at the deadline.

JvR for Schenn does seem to be slightly tilted to Leafs. Not that Schenn is bad, just feel that JvR should have had a bit more value.
Both players will help their new clubs. Schenn has good size, mobility and likes to hit. The trade also opens some cap room so the Flyers could be bigger players in free agency. |

He a skilled winger with size. He's not going to be Cam Neeley. Could be a good 30-35 goal scorer. When he plays with a chip on his shoulder, he can take a game over |

I'm happier to have Schenn on board then settling for Wideman. When Carle is re-signed, I was still concerned with the depth because of Meszy and Kimmo returing from back surgery. |

Maybe there was more we didn't know about behind the scenes. Maybe homer felt his window to trade the player was shrinking.
The biggest thing that I,Ike about this trade is as longas were sign carle our d is finished for now. I like our team, we played most of the season without jvr anyways. I honestly wouldnt mind resigning jagr and sitting pat until the crazyness of free agency ends so we can see what's left. |

I like the trade better today than I did yesterday, and I liked it yesterday. Good players, both with upside, JVRs slightly higher, but Schenn can be a force.
I think it's a good fit for Schenn at this point in his career. Like in Toronto, he is coming in here not being the focal point on D. With Carle back, and god willing they stay healthy, all 6 Dmen look poised to potentially have perfect scenarios for success, i.e. the right amount of ice time for each of them to be most effective, not trying to over compensate. Again that depends on injuries, which we know happen, but barring anything major, MAB and Lilja should fill in fine for the typical bumps and bruises an 82 game season plus playoffs brings.
I think next summer is Weberfest and with Kimmos money coming off the boards theyll be players. Keep the young guys and hope this team gells together defensively. |

Especially for the cap hit. Wideman will be 5, Schenn is of good value where hes at imo. |

It seems to me that the Schenn/JVR deal signals that both the Leafs and Flyers have decided to opt out of the Ryan sweepstakes. Unless the Flyers offered up Schenn and Schenn for Ryan and something else coming back from the Ducks. But, if the Flyers want to do that kind of deal they are better to go after Weber or, even, J.Bo.
The Ducks are very confusing. They have just dealt Visnosky and they are now shopping Ryan. That is more than $10m off their payroll, that will put them down around $32m on their current salary base with nearly $40m in unused cap space. They are loaded with some really good prospects. Perhaps they are getting ready to take a run at Parise, Suter or another big name talent (the Visnofsky trade baffles me). |
