When they had no elite centre, goalie or D and only kessel they either didnt make the playoffs or got booted from the 1st round.
Now, they at least make the playoffs but still get booted in the first round.

There is an article in the montreal gazette on the habs signing marner to an offer sheet.

Do they not realize marner would have to sign it? That would put him at risk of playing for the habs. Why on earth would he do that?

It's really hilarious people think Leafs have the biggest cap issues. Winnipeg's is a mess and they have a core piece who wants out.

If LA will take Zaitsev for Phaneuf (they retain max money) and a pick I would take it. Remember Zaitsev was a free agent so anything is a bonus. Phaneuf can play the Hainsey role and be on the third pairing.

I also like Zaitsev for Tanev (they retain some money) and a pick. Z is better than Tanev but again Zaitsev was a free agent.

The real asset is the cap space in both these deals.
