Kanye made one album where he predominately used autotune - '08s 808 Hearbreaker. It was as weird a record as a rapper ever made, and it was awesome.
Don't know what's wrong with autotune. I guess you think that guitarists who use effect pedals - basically all of them - are not "real" guitar players?
Plus, find me an angrier, politically relevant album than Yeezus that was actually a hit. I mean, you usually don't get both, so that too is an impressive achievement.
However, I do get that Kanye is polarizing and not everyone likes him. Too bad, y'all are missing out. - James_Tanner
Do the guitar player still play the guitar? Yes they do. Kayne just signs and then has a producer and himself self to change his voice. How is that great?

Tanner drooling over Kanye makes total sense
Guitar effect pedals have nothing to do with keeping a guitar tuned to required pitch
Kanye uses a computer based program, to change the pitch in voice. How is he the best if he needs a machine to change his sound? - tomburton99
First of all, with very few exceptions (Neko Case) nearly everyone who records in a big expensive studio for real music producers uses some form of pitch correction software. I'd say 99%.
Second, autotune is a specific thing that gives your voice that wavy sound - its more about the sound it makes than using it to cover up for vocal deficiencies, it's no different than a singer using a vocador (Strokes) or a megaphone or a guitar player using an effects pedal (which they all do).
Third, asking for some kind of natural process or authenticity in the recording studio is hilarious. Why not just say that if a band was any good they wouldn't record track by track? Or they wouldn't use studio musicians or any one of a million things you clearly have no idea about but would consider "cheating".
It's just ridiculous to say a guy who used autotune isn't a real musician. I don't even know what else to say. It's a very strange complaint.

He's great because 90% of the time he is his own producer. He makes the beats, he writes the words, he mixes the songs. He does it all. As Tanner said, he made one album using auto-tune and it was amazing. His lyrics are up there in the top 10 of all rappers. You don't have to like him, but he is brilliant. Yes he is a little out there, but he just does't enjoy pop culture media, and I don't blame him. Imagine having people follow you day and night trying to catch you with your pants down.

Exactly. Kanye has reached the point of the Beatles or a movie like Apocolypse Now! Where, even if you don't like it and it isn't your thing, you should respect it if you want to sound like you know what you're talking about at all.

Thats how i feel about a lot of artist. Sure there is a lot of garbage out there, but there is usually some level of talent behind it. Taylor Swift for example, hate her music, but you have to admit she knows what she is doing.

Agreed. Not my cup of tea, but as a songwriter she's one of the best in the biz.
Personally, I find the entire celebrity culture boring. Most people act politely and give no opinions so as to not halve their audience, but not Kanye.
I think ruining a stupid corporate crapshow like the Grammies is awesome. I think the balls on the guy are fantastic and I wish more people acted as crazy as he does.

I think that clip rules. - James_Tanner
Whats funny about that clip is that there is a picture out there of Kanye chugging Hennesy or Patron straight out of the bottle like 10 mins before he does that.

It wasn't even that bad. He apologized and said he'd let her finish, then he made a quick point and handed the mic back. Having heard about that incident a lot, I was really surprised it was so tame.
Still cool though. But, even if you don't like it, it's not like a person's art and their personality are the same thing.
Norman Mailer is one of my favorite authors, but that guy was a terrible human being. David Bowie once gave an interview endorsing fascism. Stephen King doesn't remember writing several of his books.
I think its up to everyone to decide how big of a jerk a guy can be before you stop liking his work.
When it comes down to it, besides act like a bit of a clown, Kanyes never actually committed a crime. Jay Z used to sell crack, that's worse.

He has nothing to do with the category. So he's a douche and you just made my point.
James - What is your opinion about Pet Sounds? - rmiethaner
I gush over it, exactly as you probably could imagine. I think its one if the only things in the world that lives up to the hype. Carline No is my all-time favorite song.
PLUS: To the best broadcasters/writers/talking heads in the NHL: Pierre McGuire, Kelly Hrudey, Darren Pang, Elliotte Friedman, Travis Yost, Stephen Burtch, Todd Cordell and Dominic Galamini.
Leaving Bob McKenzie off this list invalidates your entire argument.

Dude, you are an incredible hypocrite.
MINUS: Patrick Kane leading the league in scoring, possibly winning the Heart trophy. Sure, he's good at hockey, and has been convicted of no crimes, but at best, he's a creepy jerk whose success proves that people who believe in Karma might as well switch to Astrology.

So is Tanner a Coyotes blogger or an Oilers blogger? Im a bit confused. - doppelthat
He's a guy who does Coyotes blogs, but doesn't seem to really like them or watch them. So he talks about "artists" like Kanye. And it fits. Coyotes, Kanye. ..nobody likes, cares or bothers with either except the 2 fans they have.
