Blackball him to the KHL, he has not proven anything, and we all hate stuck up players that hold out who have not proven anything. He is a complete Fail. Including his agent.

he's a good prospect that you can acquire for nothing but a rookie contract. it's pretty (frank)ing simple.
- Fountain-San

Thanks for proving my point. You can say that about ANY 2nd or 3rd round pick from the past two or three years who actually has professional hockey experience. Why is he any different? Just because he's available?

Seems more logical and more low risk to try out someone in your system who actually has experience at the pro level than a guy who only got better when he was much older than the competition.

This is gonna be great. Whoever gets this kid the fanbase will be so hyped for a guy they've probably never seen step onto the ice and whoever misses out will claim he's gonna be a bust also never having seen him play
- Anthony5967

No no. Not probably. They've never seen him play.

Well, I'm pretty sure everyone here has seen his highlights AFTER the media started hyping him.

I watched him in a play in whopping 4 beanpot and 4 hockey east semi's. I super pumped and jacked. I can't wait.

I'll make an addendum. I imagine a small percentage of hockey fans living in Boston have seen Vesey play.

Just to point out...

Vesey's line-mate (Criscuolo) has nearly-identical stats as Vesey at Harvard:

Year 1: 13pts (in 22gms) vs 18pts (in 27gms)
Year 2: 20pts (31in gms) vs 22pts (in 31gms)
Year 3: 48pts (in 37gms) vs 58pts (in 37gms)
Year 4: 32pts (in 34gms) vs 46pts (in 33gms)

Of course, Vesey's are a bit better, but they are still pretty close. They both followed the same trajectory at Harvard, and have similar skill levels.

And, Criscuolo hasn't been worth a 7th round draft pick for 4 years now. Yet, Vesey is talked about as the 2nd coming?

- stringerbell

No. Over a short season, those splits in year 3 and year 4 are significant.

no you can't dummy. you only sign one rookie contract. and most NHL scouts are pretty solid in that he's a legit player.

sorry about calling you a dummy.

2 games. You're probably the in the top 10% on seeing him actually play as far as HB commenters go. Seriously.

You don't think there's even a small chance that Vesey's numbers got better because he was older than the rest of competition, and weak competition at that? While good players have come out the Boston college system, that system is the hardest of places to play.

I think he'll be ok but he's not going to be the game changer on any team. He was 17th in scoring the NCAA last season and in the ECAC. That's hardly dominating. I'm not saying he wasn't deserving of the Hobey but personally I thought Kyle Connor was the best player in college hockey last season. That said there is something to say for someone playing four years at Harvard and I'm sure voters did not want to vote for another one and done (Eichel, Connor).

Would love to have him and sure he will help some but this kid could be getting set up for a major fall with all of this hype.

Sabres still have the most to offer. He WILL NOT get a top 6 spot on the Rangers, too much pressure in Boston and no one else is really a contender.

Sabres have the most upside potential in the next five years out of these three. Rangers will try to buy a cup, Bruins are in the tank and no real foundation for a rebuild. I still see him signing with Buffalo. The kid (sort of) is getting some terrible career advice from his agent and dad, only reason he held out and did not sign in Buffalo already.

Of course. But that's not what I was responding to. The OP claimed Vesey's linemate had "nearly identical" stats in order to make the point that they were similar talents, but his line mate went underrated. But Vesey's numbers were clearly better in years 3 and 4 than his linemate. The whole Vesey media hype is stupid, but here we are: talking about it.

These are some blanket comments that I love: "most NHL scouts." Where is your proof of that? "most"

Right, you can only sign one rookie contract, so why not give the guys on two-way contracts a long look instead? They're going to cost less and are more proven at THE PROFESSIONAL LEVEL than a 23 year old dominating weaker competition.

Sorry for making you look dumb there.

The hype is ridiculous. Im almost feel bad for the kid. He is going to sign with a team and then enter their development program. See ya in 2 years Jimmy. Thanks for the summer of 2016.

How do the Sabres have the most to offer? Honestly, you guys don't need him. Between Kane and Ennis, you guys don't have a lot of room for him. Your top nine is pretty darn solid. You guys need to focus on shoring up your defense.

NJ offers him the best chance to get 2nd line duty.

No, he said he was going to UFA when he was still with the Preds, and that's what he's done...
