So convince me why this Reider kid is relevant.
Top nine?
.38 ppg doesn't exactly give me a boner. |

Tough call. Personally I'm inclined to think when players this young, with the possibility of a higher ceiling, sign long term contracts for less money than they could get in a few years more of good play, that their agents don't see a higher ceiling for them and or they have a history of injury every year, so it becomes more of an insurance contract for the future, and not indicative of what their top potential earnings could be if they met their potential. What say you Tanner? I would appreciate your input. |

Strome, Dvorak and Keller have never played a second in the NHL, what if they turn out to be complimentary players themselves? |

Btw James has been unusually quiet for one of his blogs.. Either I stole the show or he has been hitting the vino Or he's just being a good dad and spending time with his family |

Didn't realize Scarlet Johansson had such a good voice. One of the most beautiful women in Hollywood too.
Don't think I've ever seen Rieder play (or at least paid attention when I did), but from what you've said Tanner, it does seem surprising Phoenix hasn't gotten him signed. Maybe they'll get to it after the WCH is over. |

Rieder is a solid player. $4M? Noooo way. He's a $2.5M a year player IMO. I don't care if it's two years or six years.
I can see Rieder developing into a perennial 35/40 point-getter and a staple on your third line, but unless he starts putting up 20 goals a year if you pay him $4M you're nuttier than a Payday bar. |

If i understand what your saying, then a player would take less long term for the security it offers. If youre 22 and take a 7 year deal for 5 million, thats a guaranteed 35 million. You could make more if everything works out, but maybe you get hurt or dont hit your potential? Its the safe play.
Take Connor Murphy, he gets way more than hes currently worth, but much less than he might be worth. The team gambles that he might get better and if he does they suddenly have a player making less than hes worth, which is huge in a salary cap system.
So theres like a mutually benificial number with each party carryjng some risk, not that the player knows hes injury prone or anything like that . |
