So, we're moving Nylander for a top 6 forward. What am I missing here? |

Sounds like they are hoping to get a top 6 forward to replace Nylander, when he is traded for a Dman. |

This is intriguing. It seems like different sources are hearing different stories about Toronto.
Ek is saying the Leafs are aggressively looking for a top 6 forward, and tried hard to land Patrick Kane.
LeBrun just said this morning that the Leafs spoke to Kane, but weren’t even among the final 3 or 4 teams list. They didn’t make an aggressive pitch for Kane since their focus is to improve their blue line, rather than a scoring forward. GM Brad Treliving also just stated that he is looking to upgrade his blueline.
Not sure who to believe here. Could be some misdirection and semantics games going on.

If the Leafs thought Patrick Kane was still a top six who could replace Nylander then they could stretch that thinking to think Corey Perry could fit that.

Obviously believe Ek. Feeble minds like Treliving can't grasp the 4D dominoes taking place. |

I think Leaf’s will either trade WM for an impact D or let him walk and use the cap-space to go after someone like Patrick Kane in the offseason. Depending on how he performs with Detroit this season, Kane could be worth $6-$7M aav contract which is basically what WN’s current contract aav is. |

So the team that definitely needs D and a D upgrade most definitely was sniffing around a purely offensive player, which they already have enough of... |

Kind of amusing all the negative comments about Kane... right AFTER he chose Detroit and got signed. Didn't see hardly any negative comments until he chose Detroit. Once I saw it was a one year "show me" contract which is pretty low risk I'm not really concerned at this point. We'll see how it plays out. |

This is a no-risk move for Detroit. They gave up no picks or players to acquire him.
If he works out and helps the Wings qualify for the playoffs, then great for him and the team.
If his hip won't cooperate and he's greatly diminished or washed, then you're only on the hook for one year. You get a year of Kane mentoring your young players.
People hating on Kane in the lead up to this were mostly thinking he would get more term and money. This contract is actually quite good. |

I think it's great, reminds me of the beginning of the 2000's when the Wings were signing all these old guys with big names.

I don’t think the comments are so much against Kane but more about the track record of those having that surgery and their lack of performance thereafter. Couple that with his age and decline.
It’s not no risk. What if he’s healthy enough to play but not at top six level? Do they keep him up in the lineup because of who he is? If so, how does that affect team performance, chemistry and morale?

False, its the 4th I'm saing he was garbage for the Rangers in the playoff, kinda doubt its going to be much better after that surgery
But agree its a very low risk for the wings ! |
