Thanks Zach. By the way, you can get an indoor HD antenna for $20 on Amazon, if I lived in the Chicago area, that would be a no brainer.

Mr Richochet,

Would you rate or postulate the possibility Hayes finds some time on Bedard line (or just debuts in the NHL) this season?

Thank you anyone with an opinion on the progress Hayes could delight fans craving for legitimate scoring help

Mr Richochet has commented how Hayes has improved each year as he advanced to better competition. He has received a good look in the last two training camps. I have to say both Nazar and Hayes are on the cusp of NHL employment. They have the skill we need to inject in our lineup

Ahahahah - 'getting an antenna-- man I had forgotten how out of the loop I am down here - and that is, you need an antenna for pretty much everything (at least in my part of the country) - now of course, too - what with basically allowing for a cable to the back of a docking station- just attaching something with streaming on it (assumes you are connected to your net on a network).... change around the input - and .... the HD tv effectively becomes another monitor ...

I mean in my case, it ends up being based on a streaming service -which (at least last season) you'd log into our ESPN - and I think all of the games were on - usually with both feeds (home/away) unless it was a nationally televised game.

Look- they gotta be better than the Bears are going to be- I knew once some idiot headline read about the Bears being ahead of the Packers (after week 1) -that Karma would take a big kiester bite out of that statement ... too much tempting fate. Those people up north of the stateline -they actually live only to beat the Bears (no idea why, I mean - they wear foam Swiss cheese wedges on their head- so I mean some things, are simply, inexplicable.

I don't get it.
Someone in the Chicago area will be able to watch Blackhawks games with a regular antenna, without direct tv/comcast/some streaming service?
Like watching it on wgn?

As I mentioned on @NHLNetwork a few moments ago, Detroit & Lucas Raymond were working towards a long-term deal... Well, it's done.

8 years x $8.075M AAV

I don't think 98 is gonna settle for 9.8 a year

Re: Chicago Sports Network
Interesting details.
May actually be the final straw for this household in Springfield, IL to walk away from cable TV.
It will be a pretty big adjustment, we are largely luddites in this area. But, if no Blackhawks on cable, why cable at all?
I'm relatively certain an antenna won't do the trick this far from Chicago. Researching NHL Center Ice...

IMO Hayes did not do anything in the prospects tourney to indicate he is ready to play in the NHL this year, let alone play on line 1. Dach had a better tourney, and vastly more experience. If anyone besides Nazer sees NHL time as a forward this year, I can also see Ludwinski get some games, maybe Savoie depending on whether they are looking at a center or wing.

Spellecey looked like a newborn colt from a Kentucky Derby winner. Will be excited to watch his progress this year

Yep. Need a digital TV antenna, not your old rabbit ears. Here's a review of some of them. Price range varies, but as mentioned earlier, there are some available for $20.

Here's a site detailing what stations you can get in a given area. Just enter your zip code to see what's in range.

The expectation for Bedard should be +40 goals. He has an Ovechkin\Matthews level shot and significantly more craftiness, albeit much smaller, than both those players.

The kid was already built like a tank. If these guys are pointing out that he's noticeably bigger then he may not get manhandled by McKinnon like he did last year.

The TV thing is really the issue with digital transformation for most organizations. It disrupts standard operations, revenue flows, spend - so basically everything. There was a report earlier in the year that came out (Harvard Business if I'm not mistaken) that had 70% of money spent was wasted, 26% of projects produced no change and 87% failed to meet all objectives.

The NFL has done a pretty decent job with this, though they had a lot of infrastructure in place and more money than the Pope to work with. Shifting outliers like Thursday night football to Amazon wasn't a terribly big risk since it was already off the major networks. They also have taken a league wide approach rather than throwing the individual teams to the wolves and have not been afraid to piss off their fan base in order to grow it in non traditional markets (women and Europe for example).

The NHL is a Mickey Mouse league, comparatively speaking, without an effective or impactful marketing or digital strategy.

Following the USHL for nearly 20 yrs I have heard folks say some kinda tournament between the USHL and CHL should be played. Every yr I heard this, for 20 yrs, and it's finally here!!!

The NTDP will play 2 games this yr vs a team of allstars made up from the 60 team CHL's top prospects. The two games will be played in Canada, first game in London the day after US Thanksgiving and one in Oshawa.

This is a top prospects game, draft eligibles, which makes it must see for draftniks (which all Hawk fans are for now) and of course USA v Mighty Canada.

I think I understand what this means now. I can drop cable, get an antenna and watch the Hawks?!

https://chsn.com/info#premium-offerings

In addition to over-the-air, I wonder what this premium offerings refers to?

"Premium Platforms

CHSN will deliver all of the Chicago sports action that our fans crave, produced with the highest quality standards in mind. Committed to working with our partners to provide the best-possible at-home experience for their customers, CHSN will push the limit on advanced production offerings and high-end experiences, including a dramatic expansion of 4k-quality games while preserving customary conveniences such as pausing and recording."

I have to admit, being able to watch the games while traveling on the NBCSports app was convenient. But if it means cutting the cable, I'm all for it.

Improved matters a lotta different ways and indeed, I have said Hayes has improved nicely from yr to yr. They draft the kid in rd 3 after he scored 19 goals. The next yr he pops for 41 goals and as a 20 yr old he scores 37. Just by the numbers you can see improvement and especially his draft +1 yr.

I've watched him a decent amount since he was drafted and regardless of any stats from last yr the kid looked a lot different from the yr before when he scored 41..... Simply said last yr he had the look.

Kid controlled play, game was really slowed down and "structuralized" when the kid had the puck. Head up, looking at options, sidestepping pressure, unhurried like he's playing 16 yr olds, and not just in the Ozone. .. A very mature, poised, polished player as a 20 yr old in Jrs.

LA mentions Hayes was kinda just a guy at the Kurvers Tourney. I'd say he showed a bit better than that but I'd ask those who saw the tourney the last 2 yrs about Ludwinski.

Last yr no question just a guy. You had to look to find him. This yr how many times did you say who's that #92, and or how many times was his name called?... No, the kid didn't light any scoresheet up but you saw a more mature kid, a kid who looked like he belonged.

Been reading about the big contacts coming soon for Dmen Bouchard and Dobson (yep, drafted same yr and after Boqvist in 2018). 2018, that seems a long time ago, and it is. These guys are now 24/25. Look how long it took the 10th and 12th players taken in the draft to be difference makers. ...... 5-6 yrs after they were drafted in the top 1/3 of the 1st rd.

Hayes was drafted rd 3. It looks like a fine pick by the stats and my eye test says last yr he looked much much better than his 37 goal season and way better than his 41 goal season the yr before.

For me the kid skates just fine (guess that's why he slid to rd 3), had an NHL release his draft yr and showed fine poise/reads/goal scorer mentality as a 20 yr old at 6ft 1in. I'm not going out ahead of my skis but the kid now has the back class of an OHL season (no doubt the OHL is the best jrs league in the world) of 41 and 37 goals and shows maturity with an NHL shot and has progressed each yr.

I will say the kid has a real shot at the NHL but look at the top tier Dmen Bouchard and Dobson. Took them 5 yrs so a guy like Hayes is gonna take awhile IF he becomes an NHLer. ....... Now he's a Hog/pro. Let's see what he's got as he moves up in class.

Or like the couple "special antennas" I bought, built and installed (prior to cable inside the city) during the local home game blackout era where you needed to pick up an out of town broadcasted telecast?

It seems this little back door will be around until the new outlets to sell their product fortify, or is that just an old guy being grumpy, me, not the other one?

Next topic:

Jim, you are rushing things with "Gavin Hayes era."

He would have to show the defensive instincts of Slaggert, and the set up and positioning of Lil Frankie, and leapfrog them, and the millstone around Reichel's neck, and the veteran contracts expiring.
And competition will get tougher when Moore, and the other scoring kid forwards start getting there as pros. Are we going to hurredly rush Ryan Greene into the mix? I am not attempting to denigrate his PK & PP roles as a Terrier, or his role as a difference - maker as a 2nd line college centre.
There is a lot more road he need to travel before and after his being signed and his being in the bigs.
Same goes for Hayes who will have to be a dominant Ice hog scorer and all around forward before anybody in the organization is calling for his ascension.

Rabbit ears!
Still find this so odd. So for like a $20 antenna I'll be able to watch Blackhawks games (I assume this is only if they aren't on TNT etc..) even though they have a deal with direct tv?

Capn, dude, install an add blocker. I have zero pop ups with onhockeytv. It's a damn blessing to stream those games.

For any sport, I don't use em for hockey, and this will buffer some, is streameast. Watch baseball and football there. I know a kid who uses that for big league wrestling, whatever that is these days (WWF?).

I'm with you on Hayes, he didn't stand out too much. I think he'd have to have a check of a camp or show a lot early in the AHL here to earn a shot or maybe it will be a year or two of pro hockey before he is ready. I think we'll get a better idea if he really has a shot to crack the top 6 at the NHL level or if he tops out as maybe a 3rd line talent. His ceiling probably is middle 6 if we are being realistic.

Then try streameast for hockey. I watched the Bears there both games this yr. .... I use Ad Blocker and I get no pop ups anywhere.

I found streameast thru sportsurge. Check out that site. It offers 10ish different streamers for a game whereas streameast only has their own. A kinda clearinghouse is what sportsurge is.
