Way too many boneheaded plays by Gardiner tonight. But Andersen was weak on some of those goals. Like Krug's goal and Debrusk's 2nd goal - PatC80
Yup, gardiner was bad but they were up 4-3 going into the 3rd. A shot from the blue line not deflected and Debrusk weak 5hole. You need to save those in a game 7. |

Problem is he get's 35-50 points a year and our D may be mobile but aside from Rielly, they have a hard time putting up points. - UsernameUnknown
I already said last year that when Dermott is ready, Gardiner will be gone.
Dermott is ready already, so Jake just played his last game for the Leafs.
Same for JVR.
Bozak will be back.
as will Komarov as a 4th liner / 13th fw on a cheap contract.
Hyman - Matthews - Nylander
Marleau - Tavares - Marner
Kapanen - Kadri - Brown
Johnson - ?? - ??
Komarov
Rielly - Hainsey
Dermott - Zaitsev
Borgman - ??
Polak
Freddy
McElhinney
end of next season, Liljegren might already be ready for 20games on 3rd pairing. |

Gardiner is going to get a lot of irrational hate because the hopes and dreams of fans were pissed on tonight but he's far from the only guy worthy of getting blamed. Where was the rest of the team? What the (frank) was Andersen doing on half those goals?
Gardiner is far from the best all-around defender but his positives usually outweigh the negatives. His contract has 1 year left on it so maybe he's a candidate to get moved to recover assets but what he brings to the team still needs to be replaced and that will not be easy to do. - Unholy_Goalie
Its not irrational hate. Its the opposite of Tanner pumping his statistical tires...
His turnovers will be easily replaced. I would suggest that promoting Borgman and moving Dermott up would be an adequate replacement. Can't "wait for Gardiner" to develop... he's too old for the core - and he sure as heck isn't going to level his game out now.

Absolutely agree.
Gardiner was horrible, but Andersen poop the bed on a few goals also.
Our superstar might has well have gone to Az for an early vacation before the series started. He contributed nothing. |

great series. Was very nervous about todays game. Leafs were strong. I thought, especially after first two games, this was gonna be a pushover. Might be the best matchup in the whole east when its all over.

I'm insure if Matthews had anything lingering injury wise. If not he needed to show up to play against the best. He's fantastic but if he can't take on the league's best centers then he's worthless - Aaron_85
He had a bad 7 games. He’s 20. He’s one of the best goal scorers in the league. He will be better next playoffs. |

Hey guys - do you think Tanev would have helped the Leafs D? He could have been had for a 2nd and maybe a C prospect..... |

Great team. Bruins have a real shot at the cup, would never of thought they were going to be this good of a team this year at the start of the season. |

god, I hope we get Tavares
Also agree Borgman is going to be a good player for us all year next year. |

I was against signing Carlson but if they can sign him for 7.5 million or less, and move Gardiner (maybe Zaitsev too), it might be worth it. They still need the puck moving skills and the skating to be there. I think Gardiner made some mistakes but he didn't have anybody to pass the puck to tonight. Wingers were non-existent, D partners sleeping, just chaos top to bottom. |

Play Zaitsev with a d-partner who has half a brain, and he'll be fine.
Tough needing to think d for 2. |

There are times when players are shut down, but they are fighting through it.
He was invisible. He was EASILY shut down. No pushback whatsoever.

Yeah. I think the injury excuse is just that, an excuse. I think he just got outplayed by Bergeron and Chara and whoever else he had to face. Boston focused on shutting him down and it worked.
Hopefully he'll learn from this and figure out how to score despite facing such difficulties in future playoffs.
I think a few people were mentioning Kucherov being invisible for his first few years in the playoffs. It takes time I guess. |
