So I started posting about this game prior and it didn't last long. Now with the updated rosters out, I started playing again.

My Sabres are off to a slow but competitive start (sounds like real life!), only a 1-2 record right now, but it's fun to see the production.

In these few games:

Eichel: 1G, 3A
Kane: 3G, 1A
McGinn: 1G, 2A

Lehner: 3.71 GAA, .884 Save %

First game or two the lines were (top two lines, haven't edited the others yet):

Kane-O'Reilly-Ennis
Moulson-Eichel-McGinn

I swapped Kane and Moulson now to see how they go - worked well as Kane just got 2 goals, both assisted by Eichel.

Eichel with the game winning shootout goal (round 5 of the shootout)!

Kane with another Eichel-assisted goal in game 4, giving each of them 5 points in 4 games.

Game 5, now on a 3-game win streak and 3-2 record:
Eichel, 2 assists

Game 6: like the real-life Sabres, the PK hurt. 403 SO loss, all 3 Boston goals on the PP
Eichel with another assist

In non-Sabres news, LA is insane: Jeff Carter leads the NHL with 13 points (7g, 6a) in 6 games! Muzzin is 2nd with 10 points and Kopitar 3rd with 9. Rangers and Kings are the only undefeated teams, both 5-0-1

In a bit of real life invading video games...Lehner just got hurt in game #9. Here's the news from the game:

"Robin Lehner will be out of action for a few days after he suffered a stubbed finger in Buffalo's 3-2 defeat against the Sharks Saturday"

Other news: Eichel is on a cold streak - after starting the season with points in the first 6 games, he's gone 3 with no points and a -1 rating on this west coast swing.

First month of the 15/16 season is complete. Here are some stat lines, plus a screen shot of the stats should anyone wish to look at them.

Top 5 scorers (12 GP for all):

Eichel: 2 G, 9 A, +7, 14 PIM, 20 SOG
Kane: 7G, 3A, +7, 0 PIM, 48 SOG
McGinn: 5G, 5A, +10, 23 SOG
O'Reilly: 4G, 4A, +1, 8 PIM
Gionta: 4G, 3A, +4, 27 SOG

Shocking to me to see such high +/- numbers on a team that has a 5-5-2 record. 35 goals scored, 36 against. But I guess it's a result of so many PP goals being scored against me.

Goalies:

Johnson: 2 GP, 0-0-1, 2.79 GAA, .907 Save %
Lehner: 11 GP, 5-5-1, 2.91 GAA, .900 Save %

League Stats (Top 24): http://i.imgur.com/2NyRB4s.png

Other notes:

Lehner never missed a game from that lame finger injury, so that's good.

Weber never played a game, was finally sent to Rochester and in 3 games has a rating of 5.67...out of 10! I offered him to the entire league twice for trade and got no interest before waiving him and sending him to the AHL

Matt Donovan leads Rochester with 13 points (1G, 12A)..a defenseman!

Kaleta is 2nd in points for Rochester with 12 (6G, 6A)

Wheeling and dealing time...

Traded Mike Weber for the well-known Marc-Andre Cliche (I was in need of a defensive forward and he has good ratings)

But on the more notable side, I traded Gorges and a 3rd for Zadorov.

I just picked up Tanner Glass off waivers and will likely insert him for some more defensive forward play (my PK sucks), likely to replace Weal.

This update is going to include the trade deadline, so lots of deals listed, including other notable trades not by Buffalo.

I inquired about a trade for Liles (Carolina) - 35yo d-man, last year of his contract. The response? Zadorov (I had traded Colorado for him previously, see above posts), a 4th and a 5th. WTF?!!? No thanks...

On the GOOD side for trading, I inquired about Mantha as rumors showed up they were linked to sending him away on some trade, and the Red Wings offered him for Makarov and a 6th. I couldn't say no to that one.

Moulson hurt for 2 months (mid-February, so that's the rest of the season...wonder if I should just bring Mantha up - though he just got hurt for a week. 5 points in 3 games for Rochester to this point).

Traded Colaiacovo, Karabacek's rights and my '16 3rd for Slater Koekkoek (#10 overall in the 2012 draft, D-man).

Could have gotten Nurse from Edmonton for Estephan's rights, a 4th and 5th in 2016, but I turned it down. His ratings in his games played weren't great and my scouts were putting him as a 5/6 d-man - I figure I can get that sort in the 4th round.

Traded Franson for a 2nd and 3rd

No big deals happened for other teams after all, though there were all kinds of rumors for players like Suter, Parise and Pavelski, but nothing actually happened.

Top 5 players:

Kane: 29 G, 20 A, +21. 55 PIM, 234 SOG
O'Reilly: 18 G, 29 A, +9, 28 PIM, 140 SOG
Eichel: 14 G, 29 A, +19, 58 PIM, 131 SOG
Moulson: 13 G, 28 A, +6, 14 PIM, 144 SOG
McGinn: 17 G, 18 A, +15, 38 PIM, 146 SOG

Goalies

Johnson: 20 GP, 7-9-2, 2.77 GAA, .909 Save %
Lehner: 42 GP, 18-17-6, 2.82 GAA, .906 Save %

Standings: 12th in the East, February record of 2-8-3
(Started with a great 5-1 win over Montreal with Price in goal, then hit a LONG skid and lost 10 in a row, 2 points accumulated in those 10 games)

I ran this latest update through the end of the regular season, since it was only a handful of games in April. Posts will be about Rochester for a little bit since they're #1 in the AHL. I don't do anything to manage that team but will probably send Eichel, Reinhart and McCabe down.

March was pretty decent, going 6-5-3. Getting points in 9 out of 14 games is probably a record for the season. The craziness happened at the end of the month. In a span of 5 days, I lost to Arizona (the worst team in the league) twice. 4 days after the second loss, I beat Chicago 4-2....

Final season stats - top 10 Sabres

Kane: 82 GP, 39 G, 27 A, +25, 72 PIM, 282 SOG
O'Reilly: 77 GP, 21 G, 40 A, +12, 36 PIM, 178 SOG
Eichel: 81 GP, 17 G, 34 A, +27, 68 PIM, 152 SOG
McGinn: 79 GP, 23 G, 23 A, +15, 52 PIM, 202 SOG
Moulson: 59 GP, 13 G, 28 A, +4, 14 PIM, 145 SOG
Reinhart: 72 GP, 19 G, 21 A, +28, 43 PIM, 151 SOG
Ristolainen: 80 GP, 6 G, 32 A, +5, 44 PIM, 192 SOG
Ennis: 65 GP, 23 G, 14 A, +20, 30 PIM, 214 SOG
Bogosian: 75 GP, 5 G, 23 A, +9, 86 PIM, 115 SOG
McCabe: 77 GP, 7 G, 20 A, +14, 16 PIM, 125 SOG

Standings: 13th in the East, 35-36-11, 81 points, 225 Goals For, 236 Goals Against

ALL of the Eastern Conference playoff teams have 100 points or more. 9th place had 98, 10th had 97.

Arizona worst in the league with 56 points, Flyers 2nd worst with 60.

Sabres in the Top 50 in Scoring:

Kane: Tied for 24th - Tied for 8th in goals (Steen, Vrbata, Ovechkin, Kessel, Hagelin, Neal, Okposo top 7)
O'Reilly: Tied for 42nd

(Bartley was a waiver wire pickup when I needed depth for injury time. Claimed on 2/27/16, didn't play until 3/15/16 but played so well - 7.36 overall rating - that he stayed in the remainder of the season)

World Championships

Lehner selected to team Sweden
Bogosian selected to team USA
O'Reilly and Ennis selected to team Canada (weird that Kane wasn't)
Girgensons selected for team Latvia

Canada beat the US in the finals, 4-0. Blah

The Stanley Cup ended up being "fought" by the Rangers (2nd in the East) and Stars (4th in the West). The sarcasm is due to the Rangers sweeping it in 4 games, including a 5-1 game 4 in MSG to win it all.

June 11, 2016....NHL Lottery.

With the 3rd worst record in the NHL, the winner of the lottery is......EDMONTON!

Toronto won the 2nd spot despite placing higher than me, which bumps me down to draft 8th overall.

In good news, Rochester won the Calder Trophy, beating the Stockton Heat in a 4-2 series.

AHL Playoff point leaders:

Ristolainen - tie 2nd - 3 G, 18 A
Koekkoek - tie 6th - 2 G, 16 A
Reinhart - tie 7th - 10 G, 7A
Eichel - tie 7th - 10 G, 7 A
D'Amigo - tie 7th - 9 G, 8 A
