Chayka brings Grossman back- reason? His shot blocking/60 and hits/60 5v5 are INCREDIBLE

Pierre is a dinosaur with no concept of how the game works. People like him are on their last gasp of air. Good riddance.

That won't happen because statistically Grossmann is one of the worst players in the NHL and, more importantly, he can't move the puck.

Moving the puck is the #1 thing a defenseman has to do.

You mean how a small market team found an edge over the big market teams, exploited years and years of compounded stupidity, remained annually competitive and had Brad Pitt play him in a movie?

Yeah, that worked out like garbage!!

Just because you don't win a championship doesn't mean you weren't successful. As any analytics guy will tell you, measuring things my championships is pretty dumb.

I'd worry slightly more about a defender being able to defend (thus the word) than moving the puck. If you can hut down the other team and give the puck to a puck-moving partner, that would work, too.

Well, if the Coyotes priority is to be better without winning a championship, they seem set up pretty well.

This is a ridiculous idea, how is he going to do his job when it comes to trades and dealing with other GM's? It's an old boys club and he won't be welcomed, much like Mike Gillis wasn't and had a difficult time dealing with the majority of teams.

But james... his shot blocking... all that physicality.. you think that can just be replaced?

Hope ya know I'm just messin with ya. I'm curious to see what he does this offseason. Kinda cool to see a dude only 4 years older than me, being an NHL gm.

The Cup should be awarded to the highest corsi team at the end of the regular season. Playoffs shouldnt even be a thing

Yeah, I'd have given him more of an advisory role than the reins. It's an interesting approach, though.

It's all luck for the first 77 games, anyway. A few bounces, and the Capitals and Coyotes could have switched places. Only the last 5 games really matter, when the players actually try.

Didn't the Leafs try the analytical approach to constructing their team this season... signing high corsi percentage players? How did that go?

Well, the Penguins did the same to bolster their bottom-6 and it's been much better this year.

But having 2 top-5 centers, 2 good goalies, he emergence of several young guys (Rust, Sheary, etc.), and a the willingness to spend to the ceiling helps. Not sure how it would work starting from more or less scratch minus prospects and OEL.
