With all due respect,
While he is the last best offensive player left in free agency, what does he really do for the CBJ? We already have a group of offensive defensemen, including two of the best in the NHL. Do we really want to trade draft choices, a young player or two and players up front where our weaknesses are for one more d-man who drives the play?
Karlsson is a great player, no doubt. He seems to be a great offensive player, but does he get us to a higher level as a team. He can set up people all day long, but what if they cannot put it int he net?

Totally agree ! We already have 2 of the top d-men in the league, and 2 more that are B+. Use the Karllson $$ to sign Werenski to a good bridge deal; and then Jarmo needs to go to Panarin and ask him what he plans to do - negotiate an extension, or definitely wants out.
If he wants an extension - give it to him. He's worth it, and even at the end of 8 yrs he'll be 34, and still generating points - probably more than Rick Nash would generate if they signed him !!
If he wants out, make the primo trade. His value is sky-high right now. I understand Panarin owns a condo in Miami. Open talks with the Panthers !! Start with Huberdeau or Barkov, and go from there.
