Not being a wiener and not being bitter but do Leafs fans really think they struck gold with signing JT? The guy belongs in sled hockey! he has no legs and is a defensive liability every time he steps on the ice. For every goal he scores, he is guilty of giving up 1.5. you will see soon enough. I hated him on our team from day one. So now that you have all this cash locked up on the legless wonder, and you still have to pay your true studs...………………..and you have NO defense and sub par goaltending...………….where do you finish? lets revisit this end of the season. Enjoy! - islesrbettr
can't wait to see where the Isles finish. Just so you know Komarov is going to be just amazing on your first PP unit |

You know that the players don’t actually write this poop, right? - Atomic Wedgie
It’s not word for word obviously, but the main points still stand.
Bozak talks and the writer makes it into coherent sentences.
You can tell it’s the same writer by the writing style, but I haven’t seen a player come out and start saying what was actually wrong with the piece. |

Forgive us for being a little excited about landing one of the biggest UFA’s ever. - As_I_See_It
Which means nothing until it translates to wins. I have been a Wings fan for years (since 89') and the one thing I noticed is the teams they had built from within and developed with unnoticed signings were usually the years they won.

Won nothing....
Traded for Brad Stuart, won a cup. Traded Paul Coffey and Keith Primeau, won a cup, got Larry Murphy from Toronto, won 2 cups... those types of moves on top of an all ready build team, that was conference finals close is what did it.
As I recall, our best FA signing was Brian Rafalski that I can recall.
PS- all the cups years, it was all defensive depth that won us cups because you cannot outscore problems in the playoffs.
But enjoy the summer, but be wary of the big fish signing in July... I only know, because I lived it for the last 25 years or so. |

Leafs have a core already.
In 1-2 years I expect Tavares to be 2C. I give him the edge now because Matthews is 20 but this team is far different from the ones that sign a ufa or draft any 1st rounder and fans call them the saviour.

I agree with all of this however, trading Keith Primeau brought in Brendan Shanahan (at 27 years old oddly enough) who was a 40 goal, 80 point type player. Signing Tavares as a UFA is almost the exact same thing but without having to pay for it in the form of a player like Keith Primeau. So, had the Red Wings simply signed Shanahan and kept Primeau, do they still win those Cups? I think they do.
Let's not forget Brett Hull and Luc Robitaille, both UFA 30 goal scorers and 3rd and 4th in goals during the regular season (Hull led the team in playoff goals actually) and solid UFA additions to the 2002 Cup winning team. Do they win that Cup with 60 fewer regular season goals and 10 fewer playoff goals? I don't think so. |

Hossa would be. Hossa scored 40 goals and/or 100 points for Ottawa, Atlanta and Detroit before he landed in Chicago at 28 years old and won the Cup that year too. |

Except Hossa turned 30 while he was on DET, on a ONE year deal, topped out at 71 pts. and not a centreman... It’s... Not... Even... Close!
40 goals is solid, but you gotta show the whole picture, Cliff. |

Widely considered a very good two-way winger even though he wasn't a center and he won 3 Cups. It's a lot closer than you want to believe. |

No
Tavares is Tavares
Any team in those league would re sign him to that contract if they owned his rights.

What exactly has Dumbas done? He signed a guy that quite obviously had made his mind up he was going there regardless of making less...and??? - Iggysbff
Very true and yet he is getting all the credit.
Also,Tavares could have secretly advised NYI he was not re-signing and allowed NYI to trade him and at least get something for him. They paid him pretty well and provided him his start as he says himself. |

Huh?
Signing Tavares is impressive, no matter what damper you try and put on it...Dubas pitched to him. And signed him. Period.(which every opposing teams fan said would never happen)
Traded Martin(which every opposing teams fans said was a horrible contract)
See a theme here?
Won the Calder cup( a team he built)
It's an extremely impressive start. Pretty simple to see. |
