Edmonton doesnt make sense. Draisaitl isnt going anywhere, weve waited 10 years for a forward like him we arent throwing him away for 1 year of EK. IIFFFFF EK signed at a discount for us that might make it worth it but id rather have draisaitl than EK for 50-60 games every year at 11+ million. You can have bouchard , nurse, some picks but we wouldnt give up anything else and the sens wouldnt take that so there is no deal to be made here.

I agree with this.

Tampa is way better on d, goaltending is a wash, and the leafs have better depth up front. I'd give the slight edge to Tampa right now, but whoever stays healthier will have a big impact.
- poopstash

yeah I agree with that. and come playoff time whoever plays better and gets bounces in that period of time will come out on top.

I dream of a world where the Leafs just throw a bunch of picks and prospects to add Karlsson for 1 year(we'll never afford him to extend). But if we put Karlsson on the Leafs this year then they would be the real cup favorite. Not just cup favorites so that sports betting sites can make money. 7-1 odds. leafs favorites. terrible bet. that many will make.

He will adapt. He is very good, perhaps the best, at what he does.

Dorion needs to understand that this entire effort is an exercise in asset management. He needs to slow the process down, even more. He needs to allow for some secondary possibilities to surface. Buffalo, for example, can put together a really competitive offer.

I still believe Karlsson to Nashville, Subban to Edmonton and a package to Ottawa has the potential to blow everyone else out of the water.

Melynk has insisted teams include all the 'empties' after each of their home games in the deal.

He is hoping being able to return bottles and cans will help supplement his empty bank account so that he can continue to own the team.

As a Tampa fan, I would much rather lose Karlsson than overpay.

If the cost is Point, Kucherov, or Sergachev, then Ottawa can keep him.

- GalacticStone

Haha Overpay for a generational player? How good do you think Sergachev might turn out to be?

Karlsson is very good. He's not generational.

Doughty is better
Burns and Subban are arguably just as good.

When I think generational defenceman names like Nicklas Lidstrom, Scott Neidermeyer, Ray Bourque, Chris Chelios, and Bobby Orr come to mind.

Not Erik Karlsson

Besides the obvious and the fact that you are likely just trolling (Chelios?!?) just curious what you base those opinions on?

Chris Chelios = an overrated dirtbag, who always had one player on defense better than he was on his team. Other than that, I agree with what you wrote.

Answer: Excellent, and cost controlled for a number of years still.

I can understand the logic in giving up Sergachev as the primary piece in obtaining Karlsson. It makes sense if Tampa wants to go all in this year.

The thing that some people never consider is that there is a cap in this league. If you take on Karlsson as more than a rental, you have to feel that contract won't hurt you. I think it will hurt, as the actual cost to Tampa is too high if they have to give up Sergachev AND then can't resign a player or two next year. I am not sure that is a good move.

Tampa instantly becomes the prohibitive cup favourite if they get Karlsson and keep Kucherov ... so, I can see why the short term appeal is strong.

I may not have thrown Chelios in that list

I get the rest of his point though. We have all had a lot of years to watch Karlsson and some people feel he is a below average defensive defenseman who plays more like a 4th forward.

Clearly Ottawa fans don't want to hear it, but it isn't trolling to have that opinion.

I think he took some time as the team was not contending for anything at that point.

If we can give up a package that includes Johnson + Ernie + Koekkoek + pick or prospects I'm in on Karlsson. If we have to move Kucherov or Serg I'm not sure I want it. Yes Karlsson is a fine player, yes he would make our offense more dynamic from the back but he wants a lot of money and Vasy will need a nice raise also. If Serg can be close to as good let's roll with him and wait for Foote to develop instead of investing that many years in MacD/Karlsson and Hedman.
