A friend of mines kid played for the Bucs there. And he did have some wild stories. - 6628
As MrP posted a game in the old stadium on a Tuesday in November was louder than a SCF game in the UC. Although the UC gets damn loud during the anthem I think he's right. There just aren't old school building in the NHL anymore, maybe WPG comes close to being deafening and close to the action.
But there are minor league and jrs arenas that are still around that get loud and are old school. Des Moines being one, the Lincoln, NE Stars play in an old horse barn that I've been to gets ear splitting and those fans are rabid/unfriendly as they always ice a team that leads the league in PIM. Kalamazoo and Flint, MI have old arenas too that are damn loud as well.
I, as a 36 year old dislike the new building still. We split season tickets (until this season) in the 200 level. Really comfortable, nice waitress, never really a line since the 200 level is closed to everyone else but damn the old stadium.....
There was literally nothing like it. I have never been able to find anything that comes close to the decibel level of the Chicago Stadium during Blackhawks games.
SCF games in the United Center doesnt even come close to a Tuesday Night regular season game against the Devils in November at the Chicago Stadium.
It hurts knowing that "newer" legit Blackhawks fans never were able to experience the old stadium.
I was lucky enough to see (What I think was a) a USA vs Russia Canada Cup game at the stadium, THAT WAS AWESOME. The rosters used professional players and it was before the season started. Guess it as the Canada Cup or an exhibition for it.
Anyways it was awesome and I wish every Hawks fan got the experience. - mrpaulish
I hear you Mr.P
Nothing like the old stadium, first game at the UC, 3rd level really disappointed how far back the 3rd level is from the center. Went to tons of Blackhawk games in the 80's and early 90's, 3rd level was great you were right on top of the ice, see plays develop, and the fights that would break out in the stands were something else.
In 92 i was at the playoff game 4 vs Red Wings, and with so many close calls, then with 1:30 left in the 3rd period Sutter scores the game winner and you talk about loud, i literally could not hear myself cheering, honestly that is the only time I've ever experienced that and I've been to many many sporting events and concerts. I can't imagine what the decibel level was but for that moment we broke the meter.

Thats how I remember it. Couldn't hear yourself talk. Amazing.

I always thought they could have done suites at the 1st balcony level in the Stadium. You could feel the building shaking a little bit during the anthem. When they wrecked that place a part of me died.

I was there, and you ain't lying. I think it was the only goal of the game.

Seriously .
I remember my 1st game at the UC, I think the Hawks were playing the Avalanche, besides being one of only 6 people in our section I was sooooooooooo disappointed in the Anthem and the endless openness of the UC. OH well. Sucks.
UPDATE: Looking into the CAL / Forsberg thing. It could just be a unrelated reason he started following the Flames (countrymen Backlund and now Lindholm are there).
CAL has Rittich and Giliies (both RFAs) as their current depth to be the backup for Mike Smith. So I can see them looking for an upgrade.
Can also see them signing someone like Lehtonen, who's still out there as a UFA.
Also, I heard late last night that maybe there is more to Stan's plan (which doesn't look like much right now) than we're seeing. He may have an ace up his sleeve closer to the convention (in terms of a trade) as well as a PTO -> signing a la Cody Franson on day #2 of the season.
My contact told me to keep an eye on Rick Nash's situation. Nash is currently contemplating retirement, but if he opts to play again it will most likely be on a year-by-year basis and could sign for in and around Marian Hossa's money. Would make sense on a lot of levels and really maximize Hossa's cap space if they can't trade that contract.
New blog coming out later this morning/early afternoon. - Justin Lowe
Might mean absolutely nothing, but Forsberg is not listed as an attendee at the convention. Could just be he's not gonna be in town...

The UC has four times the the volume (size) of the Stadium

That game against the Wings must have been amazing to see live. The only thing I can think of that could compare would have to be the 2nd to last game at the Stadium. It was the 94 playoffs against the Leafs, and Roenick scored in OT to tie the series at 2-2. I had never heard the place so loud - it was absolutely amazing.
Little did we all know at the time that it would be the last time the Hawks would score a goal in that building as they lost game 5 in Toronto and got shut out at home in game 6.
About the only time I was happy to see a player spat upon. Watch the Deadwing bench when Frodo glides by. - Beaver-Warrior
didnt see it in the clip, but i believe it. That was a hell of a series obviously. I was ready to throw in the towel when they went down 3-1, was so frustrating to watch Howard soaking up seemingly every shot they threw at him.
I wouldn't be opposed to getting Rick Nash on a near minimum deal.
His criticisms of being slow are fair, but he's actually a very good two way player. Plus he's a big body that will go to the net with hands.
Perhaps he could replace some of the puck possession/board dominance that we lost with Hossa? I have a hard time comparing anyone to the best fundamental player I've ever seen, but Nash can fill some of the shoes admirably.

A big body that get in front of the net.... to maybe replace our only other guy that does? AA?

they play different positions though. So why replace him, when you could just add him? Not that i want Nash on the team, but the idea above seems counter productive

I wouldn't think it would be 1 for 1. Maybe you can get a serviceable C and Nash for the same amount?
Trade AA and Forsberg, Sign Nash and a C for same money? Just spit balling some ideas.

I think he'd get much more than minimum, but I think hes contemplating retirement due to health issues and teams have been giving him space
