So you are saying that that cap hit doesn't impact their ability to trade him? Are you saying that the Habs won't be a cap team for the next 8 years? - Aetherial
Personally while I acknowledge it's a rough contract, I don't think it's paying your best players that gets you in trouble. Andrew Shaw, Karl Alzner, Pleks when he was at $6m...those are the ones that cause problems. |

I already said the only way Weber retires is if he's chasing KHL money. But he's not Russian, so... - Hunkulese
There's a lot of non Russian players in the KHL.....that poop's just racist! |

No, it’s politically ok to bash Russians right now, they are considered evil again. It’s science. |

Nice reply. At least there is still some humor out there. All joking aside on the Weber/Price issue. If the hand are looking to rebuild, doing it with Weber and Price bringing stability to a potentially young roster is a big deal. I think Price will find his game again and Weber will be in good form in the 2019-2020 season. Weber may not be under 30 anymore, but he has some solid top years left in him to help Montreal rebuild. In today’s NHL, you can turn things around pretty fast, unless you are Detroit.... they are going to be hurting for several years. Eeek |

They had a solid draft. So there's that |

lmfao at the habs take
As a flyers fan ek should know full well that the Weber deal was deliberately poison pilled to make it as difficult as possible for nashville to match, which is literally the only way to do a plausible offer sheet.
his actual salary is completely irrelevant except for if the Habs trade him to a floor team in a few years (which could happen).
as for price, years of history prove that even the best goalies don't get great returns, for the very simple reason that it is almost always a buyer's market (there are only so many vacancies at any time, unlike when you trade a top-six forward or top-four d-man)
that being said, given that tanking seems to be the only path forward for montreal, they probably SHOULD put price on the block

Wtf does it matter how much Weber's actual salary is...unless you're cash strapped Eugene Melnyk? It's the cap hit that matters. This whole piece is non-sensical. Even for Eklund. |

Was today the day? For me that's yesterday, & I definately know it started well. Now, for you now it's tomorrow morning for me & im not sure if today's the day which means tomorrow will be it. Yesterday, today, tomorrow, which is it, or which can it be to be 'the day'? |

There was a backroom deal because initially Alfredsson had the low $$$ years to lessen the overall cap hit on the entire contract but since that contract couldn't be renegotiated, and it turned out Alfie was actually still playing they said they'd give him a 1 year deal at big $$$ after to make it up to him (illegal and not binding btw...)
When it came time to do it Melnyk cheaped out and Alfredsson considered it a betrayal and went to Detroit - RoloTahmasee
The point is Alfredsson wanted to keep playing hockey when he was 40. Most players want to keep playing hockey if someone is willing to pay them.

I love all the Hab bashing, not only because their g.m. is an arrogant moron who is ruining this team and turning them into the laughing-stock of the NHL, but most of all it is self gratifying as a Leaf fan to see some Hab fans suffer.
I have read many, many posts on this site from years ago from some moronic Hab fans ripping into the Leafs non-stop, so turnabout is fair play & this so-called rebuild for the Habs will take many, many years to turn this dumpster fire into a respectable team.

Why do they have to be North American? There are some Czech players that are pretty good. Swedish, German, all kinds! Do they have to be white, too? The world is a colourful place. |

Like the avatar - is that what you have to put online for losing that bet? You made it yourself or had the other poster do it?
(not trying to be facetious here, just wondering) |

I find it humorous, and solidarity for a Leafs fan who lost a bet... and DIDN'T welch on it, unlike some other people who should delete their account.
I think a Sens fan made it

but question. what does the new owner do with the other $49M after buying the sens? spend it on new players? |

'twas me. Tumbleweed (who placed the actual bet) and Aetherial are being especially good sports about it, I will say.
But regardless, the Sens could use some love. And it's great they've now roughly doubled the amount of those avatars I expected to see after the bet. |

You clearly missed the point if you can't understand why a North American is less likely to want to play in Russian than a European. |

So i'm supposed to feel sorry for the arrogance of a gm and his wild beliefs that hockey is still played like in 2004....
In a few years Price will be wanting out, Bergevin will attempt to trade him, it won't work , then you will have a Luongo situation where he admits that his contract sucks. - Alexzanki
Well, Luongo never should have been traded and still puts up very good numbers with a normal cap hit.
