Eklund believes that NHL scouts and GM's read his blog. He doesn't actually believe that Matthews should be paid more than McDavid. What he believes is that his opinion will influence the Leafs to have to pay more, thus making themselves ultimately a weaker team.

He has already heard an e3 for Nylander going to the Flyers 4 years from now for a goaltender.

Nobody deserves more than McDavid, to have to play on the Oilers. Not knocking the individual players.......it’s Oilers Management that can’t bake the cake with the right ingredients.

While it is silly to compare Matthews to McDavid - pretty much everyone knows this, downplaying Matthews offensive talent is equally silly. Yeah, his offensive high is 69pts, but he did that in his rookie year scoring 40 goals and playing with 2 other rookies, one that really is a 3rd and maybe even a 4th line player. In his second year he had 34 goals and 63pts in only 62games. If healthy next year, pretty safe to say that anything under 90pts would be a disappointment. Matthews is definitely a 9 out of 10 offensively....McDavid is an 12 out of 10!

And McDavid was on pace for 87 points in his rookie season. If it wasnt for that injury that costed him half the season he would have easily surpassed Matthews rookie season. McDavid does that all on his own. Matthews while is a very good player, has a much better supporting cast than McDavid

Auston Matthews is every bit as valuable and every bit as talented as Connor McDavid. They are very different in their style and game, but they are every bit equal in value...in fact Auston is MORE valuable. Matthews has already shown an uncanny ability to makes those around him better...and he has out-performed McDavid in that way...

Are you trying to prove that McDavid is better? I said it three times already and so have pretty much all Leaf fans. My point was in response to that guy saying Matthews was a 7 (out of 10) offensively because he only has produced a high of 69pts in his 2yrs.

By the way, Leafs went from dead last place in the NHL right to playoffs in Matthews rookie year and he was the main reason for it.
