Which would you prefer?

Depends what the dollars are. If he's willing to sign around 4mil long-term then so be it, but if he wants 5+ I do a bridge. I don't know that he has the offense to really burn us, so I rather get a couple years at a deal and give him the 5 or 5.5 in 3 years from now.

Blues are gonna be good this year I think. Super deep up front
- HB77

They've had a lot of good teams in the past. Goaltending always falls apart. They are in the same boat that WSH was in and SJ is in. Until they show something in the playoffs I'm not going to bank on them anymore.

So much luck involved in winning the cup.
Can’t bank on that.
Can only give urself a chance every year. Which those teams have done many times. And have generally been perennial playoff qualifiers.
(Doug Wilson might be the best gm in hockey )
I’d be thrilled with the oilers being even close to the echelon of the sharks over the last decade +. It’s pretty much the entire goal after all the losing (I actually think we’d already be there had we kept hall. Just sayin)

But yeah- I certainly wouldn’t bet on them to win it all. But I’ll bet they’ll be in the thick of the playoff hunt late next season. From there, who knows

We could rent one of these. It’d cost a little less than his contract.

St. Louis definitely got the Big Rig at a bargain...

They got frank-all for a return at the trade deadline, I can only hope that the Oilers would have extended him if they knew he could be had for even close to 1.75. Unfortunately Staples and some other media were suggesting he would get something close to 3.5++/yr for 3-4 years...

This has probably been said, but they got him at a discount because he wants to play at home and see his son.

I dont think Ive ever been happier for a guy that i was hoping would sign here. Patty was a workhorse for us. Im glad he is home now. He fit the mold of those late 90s Oiler teams that im fond of, not the most skilled but worked his ass off.

His foot speed is on the slow side and as much as I liked him I also think it was best we moved on from him.

I would love to Pulju get a chance to play on a skill line and maybe same with Yamamoto.

Thing about him is that he kept it simple and stuck to his strengths. And that made him effective. Often extremely so

Was arguing with some fans after the deadline deal to the devils cause they assumed he was useless and totally carried by Connor.
Dude’s an awful skater, but he has surprisingly good hands and Creates space for more talented linemates.
Of course Connor was the engine behind most of his points, but patty Wins battles and goes to the net. He made life easier on Connor. He can be a very valuable linemate, Not just an anchor.

I wasn’t at all surprised he was successful in jersey. (Couldnt find the naysayers after the fact for an itoadaso)
And if they don’t bury him on a plugger line, he’ll be the same in st.loo

Yep. Pretty much the crux of why chia didn’t resign him I’d assume.

If he coulda gotten rid of looch, I’d bet patty would be an Oiler right now.

But they’re trying to get quicker and somewhat change the mold of the first Oiler iteration of “heavy hockey” chia built. 2 of those types in scoring roles is 1 too many

It's funny how the Oilers played with skilled speedy players for years while every other team played "heavy hockey". Finally the Oilers add some size and the NHL trends in the other direction.
