You stats guys sure defend each other. I am not sure that Montreal got fleeced. Galchenyuk is over-rated. - Reubenkincade
Not sure about that, I think it is quite the opposite.
That said I think it was a pretty even deal for both teams, hard to say one fleeced the other. |

But if you can go over the cap by 10% during the off-season, can’t you sign a UFA for 5M and then LTIR Hossa during the first offficial “season day”?
I get that Hossa impairs your ability to go over the cap by much during the off season since his cap hit takes a good chunk of the 10% up, but how many teams actually go over the cap by more than 5% during the summer? - Nucker101
You have to be cap compliant at 1201 est on day one of the season.
The 10 percent over the cap is only good until 2359 est of the day before the season begins.
Therefore, if you're over the cap with hossa to become the season, you'd need to waive some players to start and then bring them back up. You could lose a good player that way which is why they'd rather not have him on the payroll anymore. |

I could be wrong but I think it is set up so you can't use one to offset the other.
Being 10% over the cap allows teams some flexibility to move players around but I believe the rule is they must first be compliant before being able to put a player on LTIR.
In other words the deadline to be able to be over by 10% is before the point you can put players on LTIR. - belcherbd
Ahh, that makes more sense then. Thanks for clearing it up. |

Then take it as opinion? Stats aside, which heavily favor Galchenyuk, unless you dive into PPG. I, personally, think Galchenyuk is a very good player, and I personally think Domi has top 6 potential, but is a more of a 3rd line winger. |

I don’t know about fleeced. But I did like the deal for the Yotes. I thought they’d have to add a 2nd round pick or something. AG is a 2nd liner and very good on the PP with his skill set. Domi is a 3rd liner.
Domi’s lack of goals during the last 2 seasons is pretty sad considering the top 6 mins + pp time he got. Plus it’s wirrisome that it’s happened since he broke his hand. Have to wonder if his shooting ability will ever be the same again. Could just be a coincidence but it does raise a flag.
Domi being tougher doesn’t make up that gap. |

AG badly needed a change of scenery.
Domi needs to bounce back in the right situation & thats not Montreal.
Personally neither interest me. |

Friedman reporting there are multiple pieces going back and forth in the deal. Jordon Oesterle is part of the deal going to Arizona |

And those count for something, but not enough to make up for the difference in offense.
Especially considering that AG has played stretches as a bottom 6 player at 5v5 and Domi has been gifted top 6 mins and PP time since day 1
I like Domi, but think MTL should’ve gotten a decent pick or prospect in that trade

I wouldn’t have minded either of them over Baertschi tbh(depending on the cost of course)
But then again, I think im less high on Sven than most Canuck fans. |

yah I was just joking about that. I still think Montreal made out way worse than Arizona on that deal. Guess we will see by the end of the season who won that trade. |

Neither of the 3 i prefer. Nothing sgainst Sven buf he is an asset for the right deal. I’m all for trading for a C or D which of course are hardest to do & many teams want the same. |

Alex Galchenyuk is tied with Filip Forsberg in points for the most in the 2012 draft class. Yes, he has played roughly 80 more games, but Alex is still a heck of a player, and we would be lucky to have him. |

We don’t need a bad attitude in our locker room. Only character kids and grade A mentors |

Fair enough. I think the trade is pretty even and both players needed to move on from where they were, an actual hockey trade.

We could go days and days on this trade, but I truly believe that he was not only treated unfairly, but under-utilized in MTL. I think he is going to flourish in Arizona, and be given every opportunity to be a really good forward for them. |

At least he didn’t snort an 8ball and crash his car. Compared to kassian he is a grade A mentor |
